Xenomorph Games Officially Announced as Spiritual Successor to Alien vs. Predator

Back in 1994, long before the film “Alien vs. Predator” hit theaters in 2004, there was actually an “Alien vs. Predator” video game released for the Atari Jaguar console. This game received mostly positive feedback, and it seems a studio is now considering developing a new game centered around the Xenomorph character.

The game titled “Xenomorph” is forthcoming from Athena Worlds, and it’s being led by an experienced game director who has significantly shaped the survival horror genre within the video game industry.

Xenomorph Game Announced

According to the official statement, Xenomorph is considered the spiritual sequel to Alien vs. Predator from 1994. This upcoming film is being directed by Jane Whittaker, who was involved in the release of AVP three decades ago. As for Xenomorph, Jane Whittaker has commented on it.

For me, it’s an incredibly intimate odyssey… To this day, countless individuals continue to discuss our work on Alien vs Predator, with a dedicated fanbase. For over three decades, I have been requested to develop my next survival and stealth strategy game. I am absolutely elated to announce that, thanks to the generous backing of many, my time has finally arrived!

After your spaceship crashes on planet XL-243, you soon realize you’re not the only one here and the struggle for survival starts immediately.

The game can equally be characterized as an ‘outstanding adventure in an expansive open world, featuring exploration, survival challenges, intense suspense, and engaging combat.’

Alien vs. Predator for the Atari Jaguar

The initial Alien vs. Predator (AVP) was a corridor-style shooter that received high praise for its innovative game design upon release. To this day, it is often recognized as an outstanding representative within the survival horror genre. If you’re interested in viewing some of the gameplay, you can find it here:

As a gamer, I’m unsure if the Xenomorph is leaning towards a retro vibe, but it seems that contemporary games are opting for a pixelated style to enhance the vintage feel – take Warhammer 40,000’s Boltgun spinoff as an example.

Perfect Timing

Following the triumph of Alien: Romulus, it appears that 20th Century Studios is preparing for a resurgence of the Alien vs. Predator series in the near future. Given that Elle Fanning’s character in Predator: Badlands is a Weyland-Yutani android, we can anticipate a potential crossover within the next few years.

Right now, it’s an exciting period for fans of Aliens or Predators, as we’re currently experiencing a resurgence of interest in these iconic franchises. For those who have been loyal supporters since the 90s, a new game that continues the legacy of a classic should prove to be a delightful throwback and an engaging experience.

Currently, there’s no set launch date known for the game named Xenomorph, but it is anticipated that it will be available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation 5 platforms.
