Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Stars in Thrilling Heist Series ‘Ghostman’

Actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, famously known as Wonder Man, has been selected for the lead role in the upcoming heist thriller series “Ghostman” produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series is adapted from Roger Hobbs’ novel of the same name and will be Yahya Abdul-Mateen II’s first project under his production company, House Eleven10, which specializes in creating various dramas for Sony TV.

The official logline for Ghostman was released by Sony TV:

In a twist of events, the master of vanishing acts, known as The Ghostman, finds himself in a race-against-time situation. A flawed casino heist has resulted in a large sum of money being at stake, and with only 48 hours on his clock, he must tidy up the chaos. However, this task is complicated by an adversary who not only wants him to fail but is actively pursuing him for elimination.

Abdul-Mateen II has appeared in numerous well-known films and television shows, earning an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Limited Series for “Watchmen”. He’s also featured in “Aquaman” and its follow-up, as well as “The Handmaid’s Tale”, “The Get Down”, “Black Mirror”, and “The Matrix Resurrections”. Abdul-Mateen II recently expressed gratitude for Sony’s backing (as reported by Variety).

We’re overjoyed about collaborating with Katherine, Lauren, Andrew, Eric, and the incredible Sony Pictures Television crew. At House Eleven10, creativity knows no bounds, and we couldn’t have found a more fitting environment to bring our ideas for groundbreaking and thrilling narratives to life.

Besides playing Wonder Man in Marvel’s series, Abdul-Mateen II also appeared in the recently released Netflix adaptation of A.J Quinnell’s novel “Man on Fire.” Notably, this story has been adapted into films before – once in 1987 with Scott Glenn and again in 2004 featuring Denzel Washington.

‘Wonder Man’ is the Next Big Marvel Cinematic Universe Series

In the upcoming phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Abdul-Mateen II is set to appear in the “Wonder Man” series. His character, Simon Williams, is the son of Sanford Williams, a wealthy munitions manufacturer, and inherits both the company and his wealth. This puts him in direct competition with Tony Stark. Initially portrayed as a villain, Simon eventually gained fame as the superhero known as Wonder Man.

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), several heroes openly reveal their identities – like “I am Iron Man.” However, in the comics, all characters’ true identities remained hidden, even Iron Man. This was what made Wonder Man so unconventional; while he enjoyed flaunting his movie star charisma alongside superhero powers, keeping his identity a secret wasn’t part of his character in the comic books.

1) The program features the reappearance of Trevor Slattery, portrayed by Sir Ben Kingsley and infamously posing as the Mandarin from Iron Man 3, in what was arguably one of Marvel Studios’ most debated narrative choices. Moreover, Demetrius Grosse is taking on the role of Williams’ sibling, Eric, who is famously known as the Grim Reaper, a notorious supervillain.
