Yash Chopra was born in 1932 in Lahore (which is now part of Pakistan). After the Partition, he moved to Mumbai (then known as Bombay) with only Rs 200 and a dream of becoming a filmmaker. Despite his initial plans to study engineering, his love for cinema pulled him towards the city where he started his career as an assistant director, working first under I. S. Johar and later under his famous director-producer brother, B. R. Chopra.

Chopra’s films were famous for their extravagant settings abroad and impressive grandeur. Although he experimented with different genres at the start of his career, it was his romantic epics such as Silsila, Chandni, and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge that ultimately solidified his reputation.

As a connoisseur of film, I have long admired the exceptional work of the esteemed Indian filmmaker, Yash Chopra.
