As a gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from pixelated sprites to lifelike NPCs. Yet, Kanye West’s latest music video for “FRIED” has managed to catch my eye (or should I say screen?). The minimalistic, animated aesthetic is a refreshing change from the usual high-budget spectacle that often accompanies big-name artists.
Following the initial release of an advanced version of “VULTURES 2” yesterday, as hinted on the Yeezy site with real-time song releases expected, Kanye West has now debuted the first official video for their follow-up project with Ty Dolla $ign. The premiere of the first music video for “VULTURES 2” coincides with the popular track “FRIED.”
The two-and-a-half-minute track’s visual style is straightforward in design and minimalistic in appearance, with an animated aesthetic that is refreshingly clean. The music video for “FRIED” showcases a large number of masked participants, all wearing black hoodies with the hood pulled up and black pants, as they navigate a stark, graffiti-laden urban environment designed by Kanye West. The layout of this concrete jungle is characterized by geometric patterns and high walls.
1. In the first verse, he expresses: “I’ve lost too many friends to death / Sometimes, I can’t help but question my own survival / Despite what she said, I was far from okay.” Then, he adds, “Boy, don’t take me lightly; you know I’m at the end of my patience.” (This version aims to make the lyrics more accessible while preserving their emotional tone and intent.)
