Yellowstone’s First Teaser For Season 5’s Final Episodes Left Me With A Wild Theory About Who Will Take Over The Ranch

As a devoted fan with over a decade of watching Western dramas under my belt, I can confidently say that after analyzing the latest teaser for Yellowstone’s final episodes, it’s clear to me who will take the reins at the Yellowstone Ranch: Rip Wheeler.

As Kevin Costner won’t reprise his role as John Dutton in the upcoming Season 5 episodes of “Yellowstone,” speculation arises over who might take on the mantle. Among the potential successors are his biological children, Kayce and Beth, his adopted son Jamie, and Rip, who is married to Beth and has been a longtime ranchhand for John. However, based on the initial sneak peek of the upcoming episodes, there’s an intriguing theory about who could be appointed the new leader at Yellowstone.

Where The Characters Stand After Yellowstone’s Teaser

Anticipating the November 10 debut of “Yellowstone” in the 2024 TV lineup, Paramount has unveiled a teaser trailer called “Generations.” Given Taylor Sheridan’s previous works centered around the Dutton family, the Yellowstone ranch has been their ancestral home for more than a century. In the current series, John’s main goal is to ensure this long-standing ownership continues.

The Final Episodes of Yellowstone Season 5 are Nearly Here, and I Just Can’t Get These 5 Thoughts Out of My Head

Well, now John is gone, and one of his kids will likely take over the ranch.

The brief introduction provides a glimpse into each major character’s mental state as they prepare for the climactic battles in the last few episodes of Season 5. It appears that their various hardships are about to culminate.

In the trailer, Kayce expresses that he’s carrying out these actions primarily for his family, rather than the ranch. To my interpretation, it looks like he might be on a path towards self-destruction.

To put it another way, it appears that the dispute between Jamie and Beth is heading towards an escalation of significant proportions. With Jamie targeting his father and Beth actively working to undermine her brother, the tension seems reminiscent of a volatile nuclear standoff. Consequently, the potential outcome for both parties could be catastrophic.

After wrapping up Season 5A, I found myself trekking southward alongside the cows and my fellow bunkhouse dwellers. In the season’s sneak peek, there’s a moment where I engage in conversation with Lloyd about our shared history of growing up on that sprawling Montana ranch.

Given that Jamie and Beth appear to be embroiled in conflict, while Kayce seems to be treading on a perilous path of his own, it seems plausible that Rip may be the one best suited to assume control over Yellowstone.

I Think Rip Is The Only One Who Can Take Over The Ranch

It’s not unreasonable to assume that Rip might inherit the ranch since he’s married to Beth, John’s daughter, making him a legal family member. Additionally, his loyalty among the bunkhouse boys is unquestionable. However, what makes this idea seem extraordinary is the belief that he may be the sole individual capable of taking over the Yellowstone.

In my viewpoint, the trailer indicates that Beth, Jamie, and Kayce are heading towards destruction, whereas Rip is the character who appears to comprehend his role at the ranch and its significance. He shares John’s vision, while the younger generation seems not to, leading me to believe that due to his wife’s family’s disputes over the ranch, their personal struggles, and Rip’s demonstrated commitment to the land, he is the ideal candidate for succession.

Additionally, the main artwork (visible in the teaser) depicts a lone figure standing within a cemetery. The trailer hints at centuries of conflict culminating in this instance, with an impending total war possibly determining a single winner. In my opinion, it’s Rip who will emerge victorious.

As we gear up for the last installments of Yellowstone‘s Season 5, I’ll be signing up for a Peacock subscription to rewatch past seasons in an attempt to predict who will succeed John Dutton and uncover why it seems likely that Rip, played by Cole Hauser, might be the one.
