For their first joint venture, YMC from London and Lavenham have unveiled a set of jackets featuring both classic touches and contemporary enhancements in design. Known for its unique mix of workwear and subculture inspirations, YMC partnered with the skilled quilted coat manufacturer, Lavenham, to produce two designs crafted by artisans at their factory in Suffolk.
The Bros Bomber Jacket is designed with a nostalgic feel from old military bombers, featuring a ribbed collar, cuffs, and waistline. The understated olive green material, similar to other designs, is quilted in a traditional onion pattern that echoes genuine liner jackets. YMC’s distinctive workwear features are evident in the two spacious front pockets, which add an appealing focus to the jacket.
The Women’s Heath Bomber Jacket showcases a cropped, collared bomber style that boasts a hidden corduroy detail visible upon collar inversion. The front side pockets are discreetly positioned, while the quilted flap conceals a silver zipper closure. In contrast to the Bros jacket, this design features adjustable bungee cords at the waistband for added functionality. Crafted entirely from recycled polyester, these jackets also include an iconic orange lining within.
In February of last year, Sage Toda-Nation – the creative director who is half-Japanese for YMC – captured the campaign himself in Tokyo. This campaign showcases the ongoing conversation between Western fashion and Japanese youth culture. The concept mirrors YMC’s FW24 collection, which took inspiration from traditional Western prep style, while infusing elements of Japanese culture, such as denim patchwork.
