As a lifestyle expert with a keen eye for the lives of influential figures, I must say that Yo Yo Honey Singh‘s candid confessions about his past work are both intriguing and enlightening. His admission of writing songs like Sunny Sunny and Blue Hai Paani Paani in a hurry is relatable to many artists who have grappled with the pressures of commercial success.
41-year-old rapper Hirdesh Singh, commonly known as Yo Yo Honey Singh, recently confessed to The Lallantop about his past habit of hastily composing and writing songs without much thought. In this candid conversation, he admitted that the hit song “Sunny Sunny,” which appeared in the film Yaariyan, was one of the most foolish songs he ever created.
In a casual and straightforward manner: The host inquired whether the song “Blue Hai Paani Paani” was hastily composed by Honey Singh, to which he admitted it was completed quickly, in approximately two hours including music production and recording. In his words (translated from Hindi), “The most ridiculous song I have ever written is Blue Hai Paani Paani. Is this even a song? What kind of song is Blue Hai Paani Paani, Din Hai Sunny Sunny? It’s nonsense. To be honest, look at all the songs; is there any depth or substance?”
Later, he openly criticized some of his popular tracks like Lungi Dance and Party All Night, stating that he was surprised by the praise and didn’t fully understand what he was doing. Honey further mentioned, “Whenever I am asked to perform these songs now, I can only laugh because it seems people are still very fond of these kinds of tunes.”
The groundbreaking hip-hop artist disclosed that he’s still generating income from those tracks since they’re still being played today. Honey thinks the song’s infectious melody and unique, concise theme were quite unconventional at the time, but it proved to be beneficial as it gained popularity over time. For those who may not be aware, Sunny Sunny was released a decade ago and has amassed over 350 million views on YouTube.
In a recent chat with Cine Connect, Honey Singh shared an amusing experience he had during the set of Lungi Dance, starring Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan. He mentioned that they intentionally kept him waiting for up to 12 hours, making him sit through multiple makeup sessions. As he put it, they thought his eagerness to be a part of the shoot would make this wait enjoyable for them. Honey found this incident both funny and crazy, an experience he still recalls fondly.
