As a lifelong admirer of the boundless creativity and revolutionary spirit embodied by Yoko Ono, these latest collaborations with JRP Editions have left me absolutely captivated. Having grown up on stories of her groundbreaking work with John Lennon, I’ve always been drawn to the way she transcends traditional boundaries in art, music, and activism.
Yoko Ono has collaborated with JRP Editions to launch two exclusive letterpress prints, marking her latest work, the artist book titled “EVERYTHING IN THE UNIVERSE is UNFINISHED“. These pieces offer a modern take on her previous creations, emphasizing ideas of unity, tranquility, and affection. The prints subtly reference Nutopia, an imaginary nation co-created by Ono and John Lennon in 1973, as they strive for global optimism.
In her 2004 video piece “ONOCHORD”, Ono invites viewers to express a message of love through a distinct “love code” of light flashes: “I (i) Love (ii) You (iii)”. Meanwhile, the phrase “Add color where the world needs peace” encourages individuals to contribute by adding color in areas that require tranquility. By blending her interactive Add Color installations and participatory Map Piece poems, the artwork emphasizes the instructional excitement of Ono’s work, rooted in concepts such as self-reflection, collective effort, and creative world creation.
The “Stamp” print, restricted to just 300 copies, includes a copy of Ono’s freshly printed artist book. This print, measuring 5.5 x 5.5 inches, is crafted using blind faux perforation on Crane’s Lettra Fluorescent White 104 lb. paper at a price point of $206 USD. In contrast, the set Add color where the world needs peace features 250 limited copies and comes with colored pencils. This print is made on Crane’s Lettra Fluorescent White 110 lb. paper and spans 18.1 x 24 inches, costing $483. For those interested in collecting these works, each will come with an authenticated certificate bearing the artist’s ink seal.
