You: 10 Jaw-Dropping Questions Left Unanswered in Season 4

heads up: This article contains SPOILERS for the finale of ‘You’ Season 4

In the final episode of ‘You’ Season 4, Joe Goldberg’s killing spree was cleverly hidden yet again. Despite leaving many unresolved issues, it wasn’t shocking that Joe escaped punishment since his affluent girlfriend, Kate Galvin, leveraged her connections to cover up his crimes. In a twist, the character known as the Eat The Rich killer throughout ‘You’ Season 4 was none other than Joe himself, who would inexplicably lose consciousness whenever he committed murder, starting with the demise of Kate’s boyfriend Malcolm Harding.

In the finale of season 4, viewers received a follow-up on each character from the season who hadn’t fallen victim to Joe’s killing spree. However, the most captivating outcome was for Joe and Kate, as they appear to think their fairy tale romance won’t be tainted by more murders committed by Joe. Luckily, the main character of You has finally accepted his murderous nature. Unfortunately, he shows no intention of halting his killing spree, instead planning to escalate it when season 5 debuts in April 2025.

10. Does Joe Go Back To His Son, Henry?

There Is No Clear Answer If He Does Or Not

One significant question that was left open in You season 4 is what will become of Joe’s son, Henry. In You season 3, Joe and Love Quinn raised their son together. Despite Joe growing more and more intolerant towards his wife, culminating in her murder, he deeply cared for Henry and wanted the best for him. He devised a plan to flee with Henry, but when he staged his own death to make it appear that Love had committed a murder-suicide, he was compelled to give Henry up to his friends, Dante and Lansing.

Since everyone now knows Joe is alive, there’s an expectation that he will reconnect with his son and seek custody of him. However, “You” season 4 doesn’t provide any clues about Joe’s intentions regarding Henry. It seems plausible that interviewers would inquire about this, or that Dante and Lansing would contact Joe as soon as they learned he was alive.

9. Why Doesn’t Marienne Turn Joe In?

She Is Safe In Paris With Her Daughter

To ensure that Joe’s tale continues, each season should conclude with him inexplicably extricating himself from danger. Alternatively, one might say that every season ought to end with Joe managing to evade capture miraculously. However, it sometimes seems implausible when no one ever reports Joe to the authorities. In this current season, Joe kidnapped Marienne and imprisoned her in a glass box, but he can’t remember doing so since he passed out during the act. Later on, Joe’s student Nadia discovers Marienne, and together they devise a strategy for her escape and reunion with her child.

At the close of season 4 in “You”, it appears to viewers that Marienne is securely settled in Paris with her child, unaware of Joe’s transformation, yet she dismisses this news and continues with her day. After managing to evade Joe’s capture, one might expect that Marienne’s immediate priority, beyond reuniting with her daughter, would be to inform the police about her encounter with Joe due to his history of killing those who discover his murderous activities.

8. What Happened To Elliot?

Elliot Doesn’t End Up Killing Joe

In season 4 of “You”, Elliot suddenly appeared on the scene and vanished just as abruptly. He was employed by Love’s father to avenge his daughter’s death at Joe’s hands, but he wasn’t keen on the job. Instead, Elliot aided the protagonist of “You” in crafting a fresh identity while promising to inform Love’s father that he had indeed killed him. However, the finale of “You” exposed his deception. It seems Joe didn’t consider all the implications when devising his plan. Given that Love’s father is certain to uncover Joe’s survival, this revelation will undoubtedly place both Joe and Elliot in peril.

7. Why Doesn’t Kate Care That Joe’s A Killer?

She Is Quick To Accept His Murders

In the aftermath of Joe’s unsuccessful suicide attempt at the hospital, Kate reveals herself to be unwavering in her support for Joe as he discloses his violent past. Instead of recoiling, she remains steadfast and decides to conceal this dark truth. It is intriguing that the fourth season finale does not delve into why Kate was so swift to embrace Joe’s murders. Her willingness to hide Rhys’ death suggests that she believes her father compelled Joe to commit the act. Moreover, the ending hints that she may be aware of Joe killing Love, yet she shows no signs of fearing he might harm her as well.

6. Does Kate Know The Full Extent Of Joe’s Murders?

Joe’s Kill Count Is Quite High

Kate’s willingness to believe in Joe’s innocence and devise a strategy to exonerate him leaves one wondering: Could Kate be fully aware of the murderous history that Joe has been hiding? The final episode of season 4 of “You” doesn’t provide a clear answer, and it’s challenging to recall every person Joe has killed since the show premiered in 2018. Some of the most significant victims include Beck and her friends, his former girlfriend Candace, Love’s brother Forty, but if Kate knew about Marienne and Joe’s infamous glass box, she might be just as emotionally unstable as he is.

5. Will Joe’s History Come Up In New York?

New York Is Where It All Started

In “You” season 2, Joe relocated to Los Angeles following Beck’s demise. Now that he and Kate have returned to New York City, could his prior actions come back to haunt him?

The final episode of season 4 for the show “You” doesn’t tackle the risk of Joe going back to the city where it all began, especially considering Kate. If she remains unaware of Joe’s murder spree, New York City could be an ideal spot for her to uncover more evidence. With his name being widely publicized, there’s a strong possibility that Joe might find himself in deep trouble as the truth eventually surfaces.

4. How Did Kate Cover Up Joe’s Past?

She Used Her Power And Wealth

In the final episode of Joe’s fourth season narration, he mentions that Kate was instrumental in helping him escape various predicaments by assembling a cybersecurity team, employing public relations experts, and even bribing a police chief. Nevertheless, the show’s fourth season finale fails to provide a detailed explanation of how Kate managed to evade punishment for these actions.

It’s well known that money can solve many problems for unscrupulous individuals, but Joe isn’t a wealthy politician or tax evader; instead, he’s a notorious serial killer like Jeffrey Dahmer. The ending of the story doesn’t provide much insight into how Kate managed to prove Joe’s innocence in such a complex case.

3. Will Nadia Ever Tell The Truth?

She Took The Blame

Fortunately for Joe, among all Londoners, he chose the correct suspect in season 4 of You, falsely accusing Nadia of murdering her friend Eddie. This was after Joe discovered that they were both probing into his activities and murders. Joe admits that Nadia did not put up a defense, and she is currently serving time for a crime he himself had committed.

Nadia was so set on making Joe seem guilty that it was odd for her to accept blame for his misdeeds. It seemed she might have been in a state of shock at the time of the arrest, but later on, there’s a chance she may start speaking up. If that occurs, Joe and Kate should be prepared with an alternative strategy. The final episode didn’t clarify Nadia’s future, but the show still has plenty of options for exploring her character further.

2. Is Imaginary Rhys Still Haunting Joe?

Joe Hallucinates Seeing Rhys Everywhere After Murdering Him

Following the act of killing Rhys, Joe begins to experience hallucinations where it seems as though Rhys is constantly with him. Towards the climax of the final episode, Joe appears to rid himself of this illusion by pushing an imaginary Rhys off a bridge. However, at the end of the show, Joe gazes out the window and sees Rhys’ reflection staring back, suggesting that perhaps he hasn’t managed to free himself from Rhys yet. It remains mysterious why it is Rhys, among all his victims, who persists in haunting him.

1. Will Joe Go After Marienne Again?

This Could Strain His Relationship With Kate

From a dedicated cinephile’s perspective, as far as I’m concerned, Marienne might have met her demise. Yet, if there’s a chance Joe could resurface, so could she – though she’d best pray he never discovers her deception of her own ‘death’. If, by some twist of fate, Joe learns Marienne is still breathing, he may strive to reconnect with her – a prospect that would complicate his bond with Kate significantly. The fourth season of You delivered a new tale, wrapping up quite neatly. Regrettably, the final episode left several threads dangling, leaving certain storylines feeling somewhat incomplete.

Which Questions Will Most Likely Be Answered In Season 5

The acclaimed Netflix show “You,” which first aired in 2018, is set to conclude with its fifth season. This final installment will bring Joe and his love interest, Kate, back to New York City as they strive for a fresh start in their lives. While several intriguing questions from the previous season remain unanswered, it appears that not all of them will be addressed, as the series tends to leave some aspects of its past events open-ended and ambiguous.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but speculate that one significant narrative strand we might delve into further is my own reunion with my son, Henry. His fleeting appearance in the You season 5 teaser hints at his importance to the story, and given how deeply entwined he is with who I am as a person, it would feel odd not to revisit our relationship.

In the fifth season of “You,” it is expected that there will be a deeper exploration of Joe’s relationship with Kate, and whether she will discover the extent of his violent inclinations. So far, she has supported him and even helped clear his name, but as the final season of “You” approaches, the secrets surrounding Joe’s life may come tumbling down, potentially placing Kate in a dangerous situation, much like many of Joe’s past romantic partners in the series have found themselves.
