Netflix’s live-action series finds its Hakoda.
In the upcoming Netflix live-action adaptation of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” renowned actor Adam Beach has accepted the role to play Hakoda. Known for his performances in films like “Squanto: A Warrior’s Tale” and “Smoke Signals,” as well as TV shows such as “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” where he played Detective Chester Lake, Beach will first appear as Hakoda during the third season of “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” Additionally, his work includes playing Slipknot in the 2016 DCEU film “Suicide Squad,” directed by David Ayer, and William Lonestar in the 2020 Marvel movie “The New Mutants.
In the initial episodes of “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” Hakoda was often absent because he had assumed command of the Southern army during the Hundred Year War. Regardless of the foreign forces or internal resistance he encountered, Hakoda demonstrated his skills as a formidable warrior and effective leader. Following the restoration of peace in the South, Hakoda undertook another significant project: rebuilding, uniting, and modernizing his people’s homeland.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Will Return
The series, titled “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” has received generally positive but somewhat divisive feedback. It features an ensemble cast headed by Gordon Cormier as Aang, the young Avatar who was once lost. Kiawentiio and Ian Ousley play Katara and Sokka, teenagers who took charge of the Southern Water Tribe while their father was absent. Dallas Liu portrays Prince Zuko from the Fire Nation, a character disgraced in his own realm. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee brings warmth as Uncle Iroh, and Daniel Dae Kim embodies the feared Fire Lord Ozai. The second season of Netflix’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” due soon, will introduce many beloved characters in live action for the first time, including the prodigious Earthbender Toph Beifong, portrayed by Miya Cech.
In April, fans are familiar with the original animated series character, Toph. “My interpretation of Toph will be slightly older and more feminine,” Cech stated previously. He added that he aimed to make her character more relatable and human-like because she was originally a cartoon. Interestingly, Cech mentioned collaborating with Toph’s original voice actress, Michaela Jill Murphy, who shared a similar perspective on their approach to depicting Toph.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is available for streaming now on Netflix.
