Warner Bros. Discovery announced on Tuesday that their streaming service Max will debut in Turkey on April 15, transforming BluTV – a platform they acquired at the end of 2023 – into a more advanced global platform named Max. This evolution brings enhanced features and functionality to the table, utilizing BluTV’s strong local storytelling abilities while adding an even wider array of content. They also emphasized their commitment to boosting investments in local productions.
In the fourth quarter of 2024, Turkey joins as the 77th region where WBD’s streaming service is available, marking a significant milestone. This expansion now brings the service to a total of 116.9 million subscribers worldwide. With a population larger than that of Germany, the United Kingdom, or France, Turkey, often referred to as Türkiye, offers a tremendous opportunity for WBD to engage and delight millions of new viewers with top-notch content from their renowned film and television studios.
As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled to share that the long-awaited second season of the captivating Turkish series, “Magarsus,” reminiscent of “Succession” but set within the intriguing realm of the citrus fruit business, debuts this Thursday on BluTV. Fresh episodes will be released weekly. The season finale, exclusive to Max, will air on April 17 and 24. To mark the imminent shift of this cherished drama from BluTV to its new home on Max, a striking family portrait of the “Magarsus” clan, commissioned by renowned Turkish artist Ethem Onur Bilgiç, was spotted being carefully packed up after a screening in Istanbul today.
On Tuesday, a family portrait from the original Turkish series of ‘Magarsus’, which is shifting from BluTV to Max in mid-April, was taken down for promotional reasons.
According to Jamie Cooke, who serves as General Manager for CEE, MENA, and Turkey at Warner Bros. Discovery, Turkey is a critical market in our expansion of Max worldwide. By merging the top-quality content from BluTV with the global content from Max and an upgraded global platform, we’re not only enhancing user experience but also providing subscribers with a wider variety of options to choose from. This move signifies a significant and thrilling step towards fully incorporating BluTV into Warner Bros. Discovery’s global collection.
In 2022, BluTV and the Turkish e-commerce brand Hepsiburada formed a strategic partnership. This means that premium members of Hepsiburada now have access to BluTV. As BluTV changes to Max, these premium members will still be able to use the upgraded platform, according to WBD’s announcement on Tuesday.
