Spoilers for the Daredevil: Born Again’s first two episodes lie ahead, so read on accordingly.
This week saw the highly anticipated series “Daredevil: Born Again” kick off in the 2025 TV lineup, and both fans and critics are expressing a mix of delight and distress. The initial two episodes have been especially impactful, with the heart-wrenching demise of Franklin “Foggy” Nelson set in the prologue. So far, Matt Murdock has refrained from donning his iconic costume, but he unleashed some pent-up anger at the end of Episode 2, culminating in a chilling scream that has sparked much conversation following Charlie Cox’s interview with TopMob.
In an intriguing turn of events, I found myself taking up the case for Hector Ayala, infamously known as the White Tiger. He’s been charged with assaulting a police officer and murder, but it becomes evident throughout my defense that he is indeed innocent. My pursuit of justice, however, has put me at odds with some corrupt cops, one of whom was involved in the initial altercation. This leads to a tense standoff between myself and these officers in the apartment of a key witness to the fight. After successfully subduing the crooks, I couldn’t help but let out that signature cry of mine.
In an exclusive chat during the press day of “Born Again,” TopMob got to talk with Charlie Cox, sharing the spotlight with Vincent D’Onofrio. The thoughtful Cox, who has been portraying Matt for quite some time, opened up about his choice to scream in this episode (available on Disney+ with a subscription). According to him, it was all about the contrast between Murdock’s human side and his sinister alter ego.
Absolutely, that particular scene was a blast to film, surprisingly early in the production process. It’s not a novel concept; I believe Matt, regardless of his character portrayal, perceives himself as incomplete and destined to live this way throughout his life. He’ll always feel divided and pulled between two worlds. Neither side is entirely genuine, and they can’t coexist because of his religious background, career choice, and numerous other factors. They exist separately, but the emotions linger.
As a movie enthusiast, I’ve noticed that the character Matt, portrayed brilliantly by Charlie Cox, appears to grapple with managing his volatile personality traits. It seems he once found an outlet for this side of him through his role as Daredevil. However, now it’s like he’s trying to suppress a crucial part of himself. This struggle, as Charlie puts it, leaves him teetering on the edge, potentially at risk of a mental breakdown.
Throughout his life journey portrayed in the series, we observe him repeatedly rejecting different aspects of himself and striving for balance. When he suppresses these parts, it builds up like a pressure cooker ready to burst – much like a ticking time bomb or a boiling kettle. Once this pressure reaches its peak, it’s explosive, there’s no other way for it to manifest. In my opinion, the rage and the sense of relief coupled with anger serve as a cathartic release in such situations.

This fantastic offer, which was popular last year, is making a comeback in 2025, arriving almost nine months early. The highly sought-after Disney Plus bundle deal that we saw during Black Friday returns this March, offering an ad-supported plan for just $2.99 per month for both Disney Plus and Hulu. Normally priced at $10.99 per month, this represents a significant 72% savings.
While new and returning eligible customers won’t be able to maintain the discounted rate for as long as they did during Black Friday (where the reduced Disney Plus price was valid for an entire year), you will still benefit from the sub-$3 bundle for the initial four months of your subscription (during Black Friday, the lower Disney Plus price was extended for a full year).

Watching Matt Murdock let out a chilling scream before the screen fades to black was unexpected yet intensely impactful. It’s not hard to imagine how this intense fight scene (which contributes to the show’s violent nature) and his scream served as a form of release for Murdock. Earlier in the story, we saw him attempting to suppress his anger, only to end up getting beaten.
On a larger scale, Charlie Cox’s choice to portray these complex emotions so convincingly speaks volumes about his understanding of the character, Murdock. Marvel TV head Brad Winderbaum shares this sentiment, acknowledging that Cox is indeed well-versed in the intricacies of the character.
Charlie has a unique insight into Matt Murdock, much like Vincent understands Wilson Fisk. In my view, the scream at the end of Episode 2 symbolizes a revelation for Matt: he recognizes that he can’t possess whatever it was he yearned for, that it doesn’t truly belong to him, that it’s a deception, and ultimately, he won’t be able to maintain the idealized version of Foggy Nelson he had in mind.
Without a doubt, Matt has a challenging task ahead in finding the right equilibrium, and he’ll undoubtedly need deep introspection. However, let’s give Charlie Cox credit for his dedication to that scene and bringing it to life with raw emotion. Don’t forget to tune into new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again each Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Disney+, and keep an eye out for news about upcoming Marvel shows too!
