Picture yourself as Tom Holland, the renowned actor from Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Spider-Man films and other prestigious projects, who is also engaged to Zendaya. Despite his fame and achievements, he encounters an unusual hurdle: He can’t buy his own brand of non-alcoholic beer at Target because he can’t verify his age. In a twist of irony, even though he’s a successful adult, Tom found himself being asked for ID, much like a teenager trying to buy alcohol, when he visited several Target stores looking for his Bero non-alcoholic beer on the shelves. Despite wanting to stock up with a case, he was met with this unexpected obstacle.
Tom Holland shared a series of Instagram stories (as reported by E News) detailing his journey to buy his high-end non-alcoholic beer, Bero, from Target. The beer was announced as being stocked in Target stores, and the actor wanted to let his fans know about his search for some. Holland stated, “I’ve been away from the U.S. for a while, so I thought I’d go check out some Bero on the shelves, out there in the wild.” After the conclusion of the first clip, the actor added another to his story while he was inside a Target store, saying, “I’ve had to visit two Targets because the first one I went to didn’t have it. Not the best marketing strategy.”
After searching for a Bero display in three different Target stores, Holland finally found one, but he mentioned in his last video that he almost couldn’t purchase it because the staff suspected him to be underage.
Well, I managed to find some success – purchased it, actually. However, they refused to accept my ID because it’s in English and I couldn’t prove my age. In the end, one of their employees, quite thoughtfully I might add, scanned their own ID instead. A bit ironic, don’t you think? The product I wanted to buy was denied to me due to an issue with my identification.
Why Would Tom Holland Be Carded for Non-Alcoholic Beer? Bero Explained
For those questioning why an ID is required to buy non-alcoholic beer, here’s a simple explanation: It often contains a minimal amount of alcohol – up to 0.5% ABV, with many popular brands falling between 0.3% and 0.4%. However, some are marketed as “alcohol-free” which means they have 0.0% ABV. The store employee was just doing their job, but given the 28-year-old actor’s recognition, it seems unusual. Regarding ID scanning, it’s not allowed for someone else to use another person’s ID to buy alcohol, although in this case, we can understand the oversight.
Tom Holland has been open about his path towards sobriety, which started in 2022 following his participation in Dry January. This experience made him realize that he found it challenging to abstain from drinking for an entire month. As a result, he decided to venture into creating his own line of non-alcoholic beer. The existing brands he tried when socializing with friends didn’t satisfy him, so he wanted something better. For Holland, the collaboration with Bero was about maintaining his sobriety while still being able to enjoy social occasions and have a drink without the temptation of alcohol.
Holland teamed up with beverage producer John Herman to develop Bero, a lineup of three distinctive brews: Kingston Golden Pils, Edge Hill Hazy IPA, and Noon Wheat. The names of these three beers hold special significance for Holland; Kingston Golden Pils is reminiscent of his birthplace, Kingston upon Thames, Edge Hill Hazy IPA harks back to his alma mater, while Noon Wheat bears the name of his beloved pet dog.
Maybe you’d find better success by visiting your neighborhood Walmart instead of trying to brew your own beer like Holland. I’ve found it in several local Walmarts, so they seem to be effectively promoting it. Just don’t forget your ID for purchasing it. This could make an interesting tale for Holland when he starts filming Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, alongside his fiancée Zendaya, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron, among others.
