‘You’re Making It So Hard’: Dafne Keen Recalls Channing Tatum Making Her Break Character While Filming Deadpool 3

As a long-time Marvel fan who has followed the saga of Wolverine and Deadpool for years, I must say that the latest cinematic outing, “Deadpool & Wolverine,” was nothing short of a rollercoaster ride of emotions. The movie, which broke box office records and went viral for its unexpected cast list, was a delightful surprise, to say the least.

Spoilers ahead for Deadpool & Wolverine.

In a consistently exciting fashion, the Marvel Cinematic Universe manages to keep fans in constant anticipation, as fresh instalments continuously hit both cinemas and streaming platforms via Disney+. The most recent blockbuster to captivate audiences is “Deadpool & Wolverine“, which shattered box office records upon its premiere. This film gained immense popularity due to the much-discussed cast list of “Deadpool 3” and numerous cameos sprinkled throughout its duration. Notable appearances include Dafne Keen reprising her role as X-23, with Channing Tatum reportedly causing quite a stir during filming by making it difficult for Keen to maintain her composure, with Tatum himself admitting, “you’re making it so hard.”

Fans were delighted when Keen reappeared as Laura following the conclusion of Logan, and her co-stars were equally surprising, including Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Wesley Snipes as Blade, and Channing Tatum as Gambit. However, working with Gambit turned out to be difficult due to his habit of making the Acolyte actress lose focus. As she revealed in a ComicBook podcast, this was the main issue during their scenes together.

In a different take on things, I had to inform him that while delivering my lines, his dialogue wasn’t working for me. The mood I was trying to set, which was a brooding Wolverine-like demeanor, was frequently disrupted. I found myself saying, ‘Let’s get this show on the road.’ He would respond with something like, ‘I was spreading my seeds in my buttered toast…’ To which I retorted, ‘Please, be quiet. I need to focus on my role here. You’re creating unnecessary challenges.’

It’s not surprising that her portrayal of Gambit drew widespread attention, given that Tatum’s performance in Deadpool 3 became a viral sensation due to his amusing accent as the popular X-man. Although playing the mutant was a long-held dream for Tatum, it presented difficulties for the rest of the cast when working alongside him.

Without a doubt, Gambit brought the most humor to the group of characters from Deadpool 3. The main character, Deadpool, often poked fun at Gambit’s accent and even mentioned a dialect coach. It’s not surprising that Keen frequently broke character considering the absurd lines she was given as the hot-tempered Cajun. In a subsequent interview, Keen shared more about her collaboration with Channing Tatum on the hit movie, saying:

Despite his self-promotion, I remained composed. It was as if he were boasting, “I’m on the verge of making a name for myself.” Yet, I found myself disagreeing internally. He was talking non-stop in my ear, while I stood calmly in front of him. This scene was captured in a direct shot, so you might find me appearing quite tense if you were to watch it.

All of a sudden, I find myself yearning to return to cinemas so I can re-watch Deadpool & Wolverine, hoping to catch any instances where Dafne Keen fought back laughter during Channing Tatum’s portrayal of Gambit. One can only speculate how hilarious the blooper reel will be when the third installment becomes available for home viewing.

Based on Dafne Keen’s impressive portrayal of Laura/X-23 in the previous film, some fans are eagerly anticipating her potential comeback in an upcoming Marvel production. However, it remains unclear what the studio has in store for mutant characters as a whole, such as whether or not Hugh Jackman and Keen will reprise their roles again.
