You’re Missing Out on Darkblade Ascent’s Chivalry-like Experience

As an avid fan of both sword fighting games and roguelites, I’ve spent countless hours immersed in the intricacies of Chivalry 2, Blade and Sorcery, Elden Ring, and even Dark Souls. The thrill of engaging in intense melee combat, mastering complex mechanics, and overcoming challenging enemies has always been a source of great joy for me.

1. Being a passionate fan of sword-fighting video games, I find myself immersed in the thrill of battles in Chivalry 2’s multiplayer and the intricate moves of Blade and Sorcery VR. It’s puzzling how a game like Darkblade Ascent, with its challenging gameplay and ominous corridors, has managed to fly under the radar for many. Yet, it seems that the gaming industry as a whole hasn’t given it much attention either.

2022’s most anticipated Elden Ring expansion has finally been released, and as a devoted fan, I was craving something fresh yet engaging without consuming all my time. The Marvel Rivals beta provided an exhilarating experience reminiscent of Overwatch, but with the added convenience of being able to pause – a luxury often absent in multiplayer games, especially with several children at home.

1. While browsing on the Epic Games Store, I stumbled upon Darkblade Ascent. The artwork captivated my attention somewhat, and although it was located on the second page of the Top New Releases section, the First Run badge piqued my curiosity enough to explore further. As a die-hard fan of roguelites and first-person melee combat, the game description convinced me to buy and hopefully immerse myself in an exciting new indie title.

Darkblade Ascent, a challenging game developed by the duo PST Games (who happen to be two brothers), appears to be their first project. Despite passive upgrades offered from the roguelike aspect after successful runs, the demanding parry system and abundance of enemies promise a tough time for even experienced gamers.

1. This game has a Chivalry-like combat system, making it less complicated and more enjoyable. Unlike many PvPvE games where players can attack each other, this one offers a solo experience without the added stress of competing against others or spending time researching tier lists for optimal gameplay.

As a devoted fan of Soulslike games, I can relate to the intricacy and thrill of Darkblade Ascent. Just like in those cherished titles, perfect timing is crucial for evading enemy attacks and countering with a riposte strike. Moreover, mastering a parry rewards you with the precious Pushback ability, providing much-needed relief when battling hordes of skeletons or similar adversaries. The opportunity to use these skills is brief, making each confrontation an intricate dance of life and death – be it yours or your foes’.

It’s not unexpected that combat feels a bit awkward at the moment. Occasionally, enemy hit zones appear unbalanced, but given the developers behind this game, I have faith we’ll witness significant enhancements during its early access phase. On Steam, it’s slated for release between now and 2025, suggesting that version 1.0 will likely debut next year.

1. If your goal is to engage with Darkblade Ascent, you’ll have to secure and install it through the Epic Games Store, which might discourage some prospective gamers. Nevertheless, this indie game offers an enjoyable experience despite being in its early stages.
