As a streetwear enthusiast with a penchant for art and a soft spot for hip-hop culture, I can’t help but be thrilled about the Yu Nagaba x thisisneverthat collaboration! Having grown up listening to the Beastie Boys, the “Check Your Head” reference on that black work jacket just strikes a chord with me. The subtle use of pastel blue and intricate sketching in the collection adds a touch of elegance, making it perfect for casual day-to-day wear yet bold enough to turn heads.
Yu Nagaba has been sharing his sketches with various streetwear brands, including UNIQLO for their Disney collection. Now, he’s partnering with the popular Korean brand thisisneverthat for a collaboration, featuring his sketches on a range of clothing and household items.
The capsule design draws inspiration from Nagaba tapping into several iconic hip-hop tracks for his artwork. The collection’s most notable piece – a black nylon work jacket – features “Check Your Head” emblazoned on its back, a nod to the Beastie Boys’ studio album. A sketch of the album cover is subtly incorporated beneath it.

The main capsule showcases shades of gray, black, and white, while another tee emerges in soft pastel blue, featuring a sketched image of a basketball in its center.
The blue motif is visible on a ceramic mug as well, featuring detailed drawings of a basketball player within the outline. Pops of vibrant blue can be found on a set of white shorts with prints, and these are complemented by a hat with a similar design, dipped in blue.
Check out the Yu Nagaba x thisisneverthat collection displayed earlier, as it’s set to go on sale on the official thisisneverthat online store on Thursday, August 22nd, at 9:00 PM Eastern Standard Time.
