Zach Bryan has intensified his disagreement with former musical partner John Moreland, taking down the song “Memphis: The Blues” from their shared project “Great American Bar Scene” across all streaming platforms, hinting at a fresh rendition to follow shortly.
On Friday, it seemed like Bryan took down the song. According to Variety, Moreland appeared to act first, expressing doubts about Bryan’s $350 million paycheck following the country star’s sale of his publishing rights and new deal with Warner Records. “A mere $350 M for the substandard version of me,” Moreland wrote on Instagram last week, wishing everyone a good day.
Bryan is a significant force in the country music scene, bringing about a notable change in the industry by signing with Los Angeles-based Warner Records instead of the typical Nashville label. Since launching his career with his debut album “Endless October Sky” in 2008, Moreland has consistently thrived. The song “Memphis; The Blues” was his most popular track until it was removed. Bryan, who has always admired and backed Moreland, posted a screenshot of the news about its removal on his Instagram.
Reps for Moreland and Bryan didn’t respond to request for comment.
I’m not trying to make a big deal out of it, but I prefer to keep people who don’t have issues with me on my projects. So instead, it’s Memphis blues that will be replaced. If things take a pause for a moment, just understand the reasoning behind it. No grudges held! Tulsans, take care of each other!
It’s not unusual for a song to be taken off an album, although it’s generally quite rare. This action highlights the fleeting nature of music in the streaming era, where artists have the freedom to modify their work at will compared to the permanence associated with traditional album sales. At the time this article was written, the song is not accessible on any streaming platforms. In a video posted on his Instagram story, Moreland explained that Bryan had asked him to collaborate on The Great American Bar Scene. He stated that they had met multiple times, and his feelings towards Bryan were not positive: “I don’t like this guy.
Okay. Guess I’m on John Moreland’s side now.

If someone proposed that I join their album today, I’d decline. I have no desire to collaborate with someone who consistently behaves rudely towards my spouse and companions, especially when they do so in my presence.” (Moreland)
He also asserted that he overheard Bryan make borderline racist jokes on multiple occasions and additionally stated that Bryan brought a 19-year-old girl into a bar. Furthermore, he claimed that when told the girl couldn’t be there, Bryan looked at him as if he were expected to support his actions.
If someone considers me unpleasant, that’s their opinion, but being removed from a Zach Bryan album feels much more exciting to me than being included in one,” Moreland expressed.
