Actor Austin Abrams, from the hit series Euphoria, is being strongly considered for the lead role in the Resident Evil reboot, a horror-action film being developed by Sony Pictures and Zach Cregger.
Cregger, a rising force in the horror genre due to his hit movie “Barbarian”, is penning the script and taking charge as the director of the upcoming film.

He’s preparing to launch his sequel to “Barbarian,” titled “Weapons.” Abrams is among the cast for this horror ensemble film, alongside Josh Brolin and Julia Garner. If a deal goes through, this project would reunite Abrams with Resident Evil co-star.

Sony is swiftly progressing with the production of “Resident Evil”, and it appears that they are arranging for filming in Europe during the summer months. Reports suggest that Cregger has already begun location scouting.
Constanin Film is both funding and sharing the financial responsibilities for the production of this film. Alongside them in the production roles are Robert Kulzer from Constanin, Roy Lee of Vertigo Entertainment (known for “Barbarian”), Miri Yoon from Vertigo Entertainment (“Weapons”), and PlayStation Productions as well.
Previously released “Resident Evil” films, inspired by Capcom video games, blended elements from horror, science fiction, and action genres. These films chronicled the exploits of a female protagonist who combats zombies and the Umbrella Corporation, a biotech firm responsible for unleashing these monstrous creatures.
Reports indicate that the upcoming project leans heavily towards horror, and also incorporates aspects of a gripping wilderness survival tale. The script is jointly written by Shay Hatten, who has previously worked on “John Wick: Chapter 4” and Zack Snyder’s “Army of the Dead”.
Sony had no comment.
Nicole Brown will oversee the project for Sony’s Columbia Pictures.
Abrams was last seen in Wolfs, the Apple TV action comedy starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
The up-and-coming actor began his career at age 11 and has since made appearances on “The Walking Dead” and “This Is Us.” In cinema, he’s featured in “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark,” Amazon’s young adult romance “Chemical Hearts,” and Netflix’s dark comedy “Do Revenge.
