On May 5, 2025, Zack Snyder, renowned director and producer of the DCEU, used X to extend birthday wishes to Henry Cavill. Alongside this celebration, he also proclaimed Cavill as the “best Superman ever” in the same post. Known for his portrayal of Superman in movies like Man of Steel, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Justice League (both the theatrical version and Snyder’s cut), Cavill received this high praise from his director. Additionally, Snyder shared a behind-the-scenes photo capturing Cavill in full Superman costume during one of his on-screen appearances as the Man of Steel.
James Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie featuring David Corenswet, which has been heavily promoted lately, may surprise some fans of Zack Snyder, as he won’t be involved in this project set for release on July 11, 2025. However, there are speculations about ways Snyder might reappear in future connections to the film.
Is Zack Snyder Taking a Shot at the DCU?
It’s understandable that Zack Snyder took the time to wish Henry Cavill a happy birthday, given their history working together on several films and presumably forming a close bond. Yet, it’s somewhat unexpected that he chose 2025 as the year to publicly acknowledge this, especially since he also declared Cavill as the “greatest Superman of all time.
As a devoted fan for over a decade, I’ve noticed Zack Snyder rarely acknowledges Henry Cavill’s birthday on social media, except for one special occasion – 2025. You see, this is the same year we can expect a new Superman film to hit the screens. It’s intriguing that in a post just two months before the release of this upcoming Superman movie (discover more about the seven villains featured in it here), Snyder took the time to praise Cavill as the finest actor to ever wear the cape. Given these circumstances, it’s hard not to see this gesture as anything less than significant.
It appears that Snyder probably doesn’t mean any harm in his post. While he might be poking fun at the new DC universe to some extent, he isn’t openly attempting to criticize it harshly. In truth, Snyder seems to genuinely believe that Cavill is the best Superman actor out there, and that’s perfectly fine. Furthermore, it looks like he wants to share his views on the upcoming Superman movie with fans as well.
