As a gamer with a heart full of nostalgia, I can’t help but feel a pang every time I see Robin Williams‘ name trending, not because of his legendary comedy or acting, but due to misinformation and senseless speculation. His daughter Zelda, a beacon of truth in this digital ocean of misinformation, has once again debunked yet another viral claim about her father – this time regarding a pet monkey.
Over the weekend, Robin Williams’ daughter, Zelda, used her platform on what was once known as Twitter to disprove a popular image claiming that the late comedian had owned a pet monkey.
“Dad didn’t own a pet monkey,” Zelda wrote. “NO ONE should.”
The photo under discussion, shared from an account called Time Capsule Tales, depicted Robin Williams joyfully posing with a monkey perched on his shoulder. The accompanying text asserted that the snapshot was captured just a few days before Williams tragically took his own life on August 11, 2014, and that this primate was none other than “his pet monkey.” At the time of this article’s release, the post had amassed almost 9 million views.
In her latest update, Zelda made it clear that the primate shown in the picture is the one from the Night at the Museum movie franchise. Currently, this monkey resides at a wildlife sanctuary. She playfully dismissed the initial post as “possibly fabricated by an artificial intelligence.”
In a different message, Zelda mentioned that this coming Monday marks ten years since her father passed away. “Given that inaccurate or poorly researched posts tend to spread like wildfire on the anniversary of my father’s death, let’s just assume most of them are false (they often are),” she wrote. “Try to disregard the pesky bots attempting to exploit your clicks and instead do something kind for yourself. I, for one, will definitely be doing so.”
