Zendaya Says She’s ‘Terrified’ Of Fame: ‘I Don’t Know If That’s For Me’

Zendaya Says She's 'Terrified' Of Fame: 'I Don't Know If That's For Me'

As a movie enthusiast with a keen eye for recognizing talent when I see it, I find Zendaya to be an extraordinary actress who possesses both depth and vulnerability that truly sets her apart. Her journey from Disney Channel stardom to becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought-after actors is nothing short of inspiring.

Despite being one of the busiest celebrities globally, Zendaya, who won an Emmy for her acting skills and gained fame through Disney Channel’s “Shake it Up,” admitted that she finds stardom quite frightening. During a discussion for “Dune: Part Two” moderated by journalist Erik Davis, Zendaya, along with co-stars Timothée Chalamet and Austin Butler, were asked about the similarities between the cult themes in the sci-fi film and modern-day celebrity worship (as reported by Deadline).

As a film enthusiast, I must confess, there are aspects of this profession that leave me feeling uneasy. Make no mistake, I adore my job and the opportunities it affords me. I revel in the work itself, the camaraderie on set, and cherish moments like these. Yet, I can’t deny that there are certain elements that fill me with dread, aspects I find challenging to navigate.

Zendaya, known for her chic style within the Hollywood scene, revealed that she often found solace in fashion as a means of self-protection due to certain aspects of her career making her uncomfortable.

Initially, I was a timid child, and I’ve continued to be so throughout my life. This trait isn’t something I’m used to expressing freely – it’s one of the main reasons fashion has held significance for me. Fashion, in a way, served as a protective shield that allowed me to venture out and perform tasks with a semblance of confidence. Above all, I aspire to be perceived as an authentic individual rather than a celebrity. I’m unsure if I can or want to deal with the attention that comes with fame, or if it’s something I would even enjoy – while some people find it appealing, they relish the power it brings, and I’m uncertain if that’s my path.

As the kid who danced alongside Bella Thorne in “Shake It Up” on Disney Channel and later appeared in movies like “Frenemies” and “Zapped,” I found myself stepping into more mature roles in films. This journey took me to the Marvel universe, where I played MJ in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” its sequels “Far From Home” and “No Way Home,” and also to projects like “Malcolm & Marie,” “Dune,” this year’s “Dune: Part Two,” and “Challengers.

Zendaya is Set to Reprise Her Emmy-Winning Euphoria Role

Zendaya is widely recognized for her character Rue Bennett from HBO’s series Euphoria, which she started playing in 2019. This role brought her two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress; she won her first one in 2020, making history as the youngest person to ever receive this honor in that category.

Zendaya will be back for the eagerly anticipated third season of Euphoria, which was initially uncertain to continue. Earlier this year, after numerous rumors, HBO confirmed that they and creator Sam Levinson are dedicated to creating an outstanding third season, with production officially beginning. The popular series is set to return in 2025, featuring a time leap. Aside from rejoining the Euphoria cast, Zendaya is also reportedly discussing roles for Kristoffer Borgli’s upcoming A24 project (after the critically acclaimed Dream Scenario), titled The Drama.

As a cinephile, I can’t help but share that Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” featuring the talents of Zendaya, Chalamet, Butler, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Florence Pugh, and Dave Bautista is now available for streaming on Max. If you’re in the mood for something different, I highly recommend checking out Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers” starring Zendaya, Mike Faist, and Josh O’Connor on Amazon Prime. Enjoy your cinematic journey!
