ZETA DIVISION Announces Street Fighter 6 Team

On April 1st, I’m thrilled to share that ZETA DIVISION, the Japanese gaming powerhouse, unveiled their fresh esports squad – with me as a part of it! And guess what? It’s all for Street Fighter 6! This is an exciting move for us as it sets us on the path to gear up for this year’s Evolution and Capcom Cup tournaments. Bring it on!

On various occasions, ZETA has assembled an esports team. Currently, they manage squads for well-liked games such as Super Smash Brothers and VALORANT. Their VALORANT team achieved the third place at Masters Reykjavik 2022, a position that remains unbeaten among Japanese teams to this day. It’s exciting news for ZETA as they expand into a new esports title, a demand long asked for by their passionate fanbase.

Let’s take a look at the roster for ZETA’s SF6 team, dubbed “The Chosen Six”:

Yamaguchi

Yamaguchi joined ZETA’s SF6 team following the dissolution of Shinobism Gaming in February. As a player, Yamaguchi has consistently ranked among the top 50 and even clinched first place at CPT 2023 World Warrior Japan #2. His most recent podium finish was on March 22 at Beast Cup KUMITE where he came second against his current teammate, Higuchi.

Higuchi

Previously recognized as Haku, Higuchi has consistently ranked within the top 10 of nearly every tournament he entered. His recent placements at Evo 2022 (9th-12th) and Evo Japan 2023 (5th-6th) solidify his qualification for ZETA’s team. Moreover, he recently claimed victory in the Beast Mode KUMITE tournament last March, besting Yamaguchi to secure the top spot on the podium.

Hikaru

Among the team members, Hikaru is the newcomer who hasn’t solidified his skills in Street Fighter 6 just yet. However, his characters A.K.I and Manon might make an appearance in upcoming tournaments like Evo Japan. Hikaru’s most recent achievements include a 5th to 8th place ranking at the Esports World Cup 2024 and a Top 100 finish in Evo 2024.

Kakeru

By the time of the recent announcement, Kakeru had already established himself as a seasoned figure and one of this generation’s “gods of fighting games.” His most recent accomplishment is claiming first place at Capcom Cup 11 back in March. This victory not only solidified his status but also earned him a spot among “The Select Six.

ChocoBlanka

Recently joined ZETA’s “The Chosen Six” as a content streamer, ChocoBlanka has gained recognition through her distinctive tournament experiences, primarily specializing in Blanka as her sole character (which explains her gamer name). Previously, she was a member of the American esports team Evil Geniuses alongside fighting game legend Justin Wong, and later moved to Echo Fox (still with Wong), before transitioning to Victrix Pro and co-founding Shinobism Gaming along with Momochi.

Momochi

For newcomers to the fighting game community, Momochi might not be immediately recognizable compared to players like Daigo Umehara who are widely known. However, those who have been following Street Fighter for a while would acknowledge that Momochi is on par with the top players. In fact, I could argue that he belongs in the ranks of Japanese fighting game deities.

Momochi has an impressive track record, having won Evo two times: once for Ultra Street Fighter IV (in 2015) and another time for Street Fighter V (at Evo Japan in 2019). Additionally, he is a Capcom Cup champion, which makes him unique as he has claimed both the Evo and Capcom Cup titles for Street Fighter. Notable rivalries for Momochi include Justin Wong, Tokido, and Daigo.
