As a seasoned film enthusiast with a soft spot for directors who push boundaries and tell compelling stories, I find myself drawn to Zoë Kravitz’s choices in her list of favorites. While I understand the controversy surrounding Roman Polanski‘s personal life, I can’t deny that his work has significantly impacted cinema, particularly films like Rosemary’s Baby and The Tenant.
Before stepping into the director’s chair myself, I’ve made no secret of my admiration for some exceptional filmmakers. Among them are Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, Penny Marshall, David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, and the Coen Brothers. However, one name that may raise eyebrows is Roman Polanski. Known for classics like “Rosemary’s Baby” and “The Tenant,” these films hold a special place in my heart.
“Even though someone with questionable character played a role in something positive, it doesn’t mean we should dismiss or discard the entire nation, like suggesting America isn’t worth keeping.”
As a passionate cinephile, I can’t help but reflect on the intriguing career of Roman Polanski, a director whose masterpieces like “The Pianist” and “Chinatown” have left lasting impressions. However, his professional life has been overshadowed by a troubling event from 1977. I’m referring to the charges against him for ‘unlawful sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 18’ and ‘rape by use of drugs.’
In spite of the troubling accusations leading to a guilty plea, Polanski went on to have a successful film career that culminated in the critically acclaimed 2002 movie The Pianist, which won multiple Academy Awards. Subsequently, he has faced further sexual assault allegations and is scheduled for a civil trial in August 2025 following a lawsuit filed in 2024 regarding one of these alleged incidents.

Actress Alia Shawkat is set to feature in Darren Aronofsky’s film “Caught” alongside Austin Butler and Regina King. As for her potential return as Selina Kyle in the third season of “Big Little Lies”, that’s yet to be determined, but she remains optimistic.
“I’m waiting for someone to tell me where to show up.”
In the theatrical release schedule, I find myself eagerly anticipating the premiere of “Blink Twice,” a film featuring Ackie, Tatum, Christian Slater, Simon Rex, Adria Arjona, Haley Joel Osment, Kyle MacLachlan, Geena Davis, and Alia Shawkat. The movie is set to hit the screens on August 23.
