Zoë Kravitz on Working With “The Greats” and Going Big in ‘The Studio’ Finale

Here’s a brief overview of the activities that Zoë Kravitz engages in throughout her three-episode appearance on “The Studio,” portraying herself:

1. Collaborates with the show’s hosts in various conversations and discussions.
2. Shares insights about her acting career, personal projects, and experiences.
3. Offers behind-the-scenes glimpses of her upcoming roles and productions.
4. Engages in fun and interactive segments with the show’s cast and crew.
5. Demonstrates her charisma and charm by being open, engaging, and entertaining throughout the episodes.

• She pretends not to care about winning a Golden Globe while really caring whether she does;

• Accidentally ingests a dangerous amount of shrooms at a CinemaCon party in Las Vegas;

She ascends the nightstand at the hotel and insists on staying there, due to her belief that jumping down would be too great a fall.

Identifies the on-screen character, a vampire assassin known as Blackwing, with her own persona.

Yearningly cry out, “Where is Zoë?” whenever they opt to call her ‘Blackwing’, in a hopeful attempt to lure her back to us.

• And nails her CinemaCon moment despite all the preceding business.

Starting from the Golden Globes episode and up until the season finale, surprisingly, wasn’t what Kravitz originally agreed to do in the Apple TV+ comedy. In fact, she revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that she was initially only hired for the Golden Globes episode. However, her role grew over time, offering her an opportunity to delve into a significant comedic performance.

Kravitz shared with THR that playing with the cast was a blast. He’s been eager to delve more into comedy, and being able to do so alongside talents like Kathryn Hahn, Catherine O’Hara, Ike Barinholtz, and Seth Rogen, creators of The Studio, is an extraordinary experience. He notes that there were some wild antics left on the cutting room floor where he really let loose. However, they certainly tested their boundaries, especially when collaborating with such masters in this field. Working with such skilled professionals makes you feel secure to explore as far as they allow.

Regarding that unconventional project, Kravitz admits she didn’t find it difficult to agree to join The Studio, despite it being a fresh series and Rogen and his collaborators (Evan Goldberg, Frida Perez, Alex Gregory, and Peter Huyck) proposing that she might poke fun at herself. Kravitz, who’s an ardent admirer of Rogen’s, had a meeting about a guest role with the creators.

They guided me through the production and explained their plans and methods. At that time, I was just scheduled to appear in the Golden Globes segment,” she notes. “It wasn’t about whether the show would be good or not; it was more about these artists being intelligent and insightful, and I was delighted to support them.

Despite portraying a character similar to herself in the satirical Hollywood series, just like many other famous actors did, Kravitz shared with THR that she didn’t take a significantly different approach for this role compared to others she had taken on.

In simpler terms, she explains that they had pre-arranged much of the work for her, by designing a character in the Golden Globes episode who initially appears unconcerned but eventually reveals deep caring. This character served as a model for her. Her strategy was to poke fun at herself, which is most effective when it aligns with public perceptions about you. She found it entertaining to explore these stereotypes since we’re all essentially playing roles in life anyway. It’s intriguing to consider the persona the world sees versus who you truly are in private.

Apple TV+ has granted a second season for the show The Studio. With the series progressing, it might potentially delve into the production of Kravitz’s film. Regarding the next season, the show’s team allegedly has some concepts, but Kravitz hasn’t received confirmation about her return yet. She’s eager to rejoin if given the opportunity: “I believe it will be quite amusing, and I truly hope I get another chance to join in and continue the journey, perhaps even taking it to new heights.

Currently, you can stream every episode of the show directly on Apple TV+. Take a look at The Hollywood Reporter’s exclusive interviews featuring co-creators Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, as well as their process for casting renowned celebrity guests.
