As a seasoned crypto investor with several years of experience under my belt, I find it deeply concerning that yet another deepfake Elon Musk livestream promoting a cryptocurrency giveaway scam has managed to evade YouTube’s security measures and amass thousands of unsuspecting viewers. The fact that this fraudulent stream had a verification badge next to its profile and posed as Tesla only adds to the deception.
In simpler terms, during the recently removed live broadcast, viewers were instructed to send Bitcoins, Ethereums, and Dogecoins to a non-existent online platform.
Over the weekend, a livestream with over 30,000 concurrent viewers lasted for five hours and incorporated pixelated footage of Elon Musk. During this broadcast, there was a part where it seemed like Musk himself was hosting the live event for Tesla.
In this paraphrased version, the video showcased an artificially intelligent Elon Musk voiceover, inviting viewers to check out a particular website and transfer their cryptocurrencies – Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), or Dogecoin (DOGE) – for a giveaway event. The broadcast also solicited contributions in the same mentioned cryptocurrencies. The consistent message assured depositors that their original crypto amounts would be automatically doubled upon deposit.
Live on YouTube right now, there’s a deepfake video stream of Elon Musk disseminating a cryptocurrency giveaway hoax. Approximately 30,000 viewers are finding this amusing, yet YouTube appears to be inactive regarding its removal.

As a researcher, I’ve come across an intriguing discovery regarding the “@elon.teslastream” account on Twitter. Initially presenting itself as an authentic representation of Tesla, this account held a coveted verification badge next to its profile. However, upon further investigation, it was revealed that Google had taken decisive action by removing both the problematic video and the entire channel from their platform.
Musk scams
This incident follows a long line of crypto scams that have utilized deep fakes of Elon Musk.
On the 8th of April, YouTube saw a significant increase in Space X phony giveaways, presented as live broadcasts centered around the solar eclipse observation.
On May 8, approximately a month after the initial incident, the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (HKSFC) issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent crypto exchange platform. This platform had been utilizing artificial intelligence-generated videos featuring Elon Musk to promote its crypto trading services.
In the past year, artificially intelligent (AI) videos have emerged as a convenient weapon for cryptocurrency swindlers. A current study by Elliptic reveals that AI technology can expedite crypto scams, casting a significant shadow on both the reputation of AI and the integrity of the entire crypto sector.
Engadget was the first to report this live scam.
