Cardano Releases Node 9.0 In Preparation for Chang Hard Fork

As a researcher with a background in blockchain technology and experience working with various cryptocurrency networks, I’m excited about Cardano’s latest update, Node 9.0. This release marks an essential milestone on the path toward more decentralized governance on the network.

Cardano announces the arrival of Node 9.0, a new version that gears up the network for the upcoming Chang hard fork. With this release comes significant enhancements such as on-chain governance and extended scripting capabilities. This is an important stride towards more decentralized decision-making processes within the network.

In Node 9.0, you’ll find important additions like Plutus version 1 reference scripts and script signature support, essential for functioning effectively with the Conway ledger epoch.

The release has been developed specifically to help make the shift from the Cardano mainnet and long-term testing networks, such as PreProd, past the 9.0 hard fork threshold.

Although it only provides support for initiating the bootstrap process of on-chain governance as of now, with complete governance features anticipated for Protocol Version 10.0. It’s important to mention that during the Conway era in Cardano CLI, there were issues with the transaction build command. This command incorrectly handled current treasury values, leading to complications in script transactions and period regular transactions.

As an analyst, I recommend utilizing the “transaction build-raw” command temporarily until relevant fixes are implemented in the upcoming patch. This command should be sufficient for most users. However, please note that your node necessitates some essential specifications: a modern Intel or AMD x86 processor, a minimum of 24 GB RAM, and at least 200+ GB of available storage space. Additionally, ensure your node is equipped with GHC 8.10.7 and Cabal 3.8.1.0 for optimal platform compatibility.

The Chang update is imminently underway, signaling the onset of Cardano’s “Voltaire Era.” During this stage, we will see the implementation of a formal governance structure. It all starts with the selection of Delegate Representatives (DReps) through an election process.

Despite the fact that the present version doesn’t include all intended governance changes, it lays the groundwork for important advancements within the network.
