As a researcher who has spent years studying digital security and online identity, this incident with Ranveer Allahbadia, aka Beer Biceps, is a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities that even high-profile accounts face on platforms like YouTube. The fact that hackers could not only rename his channels but also delete all content, replacing it with old streams featuring big names, raises serious concerns about account security and the potential for future attacks.
On Wednesday evening, social media influencer Ranveer Allahbadia, more commonly known as Beer Biceps, experienced an unfortunate incident where both of his YouTube channels were hacked. Instead of their original names, the official channel was rebranded to “Tesla,” and his personal channel was altered to read “@Tesla.event.trump_2024.” The hackers used these channels to promote a crypto scam.
Surprisingly, the hackers wiped clean all content from both channels, swapping it with archived broadcasts starring prominent figures such as Elon Musk and Donald Trump. This action stirs worries about the security of high-profile accounts, following hot on the heels of a previous hacking incident involving the YouTube channel of India’s Supreme Court.
In addition to their tactics, the perpetrators employed a real-time broadcast showcasing an artificial Elon Musk persona to trick spectators into participating in a cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The deceptive Musk persuaded viewers to invest in digital currency, fabricating promises that they could double their funds by transferring Bitcoin or Ethereum to a questionable site named elonweb.net.
YouTube took down both of Ranveer Allahbadia’s channels, showing an error message that reads “This content is not available.” Following the hack, he posted on Instagram about it, saying “The demise of Beer Biceps coincides with the demise of dieting.” In simpler terms, YouTube removed his two channels and displayed a message saying they are not accessible. After the hack, he celebrated with vegan burgers on Instagram, expressing that both his channel (Beer Biceps) and dieting have ceased to exist.
