As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast with decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the ongoing saga of the DC Universe never ceases to intrigue me. The DCEU’s transition into the new DCU has been an exciting rollercoaster ride, filled with twists and turns that keep us on our toes.
In the realm of superhero entertainment, one interconnected universe is undergoing significant transformations. The DCEU (accessible with a Max subscription) concluded with “Aquaman 2,” leaving fans eager to learn how upcoming DC films will shape the emergence of the new DCU. Fans are particularly intrigued by casting decisions, and recently, actor Josh Brolin has spoken out about potential Green Lantern casting and his possible role within the studio.
Back in September, I learned that Josh Brolin was given a chance to embody Hal Jordan in the upcoming series named “Lanterns.” However, he decided to pass on the offer, and now it seems Kyle Chandler is being considered for the part instead. Recently, I came across an interview where Brolin shared some insights about what happened, stating that:
You know what? Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay. It’s working out. Who is it going to be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he’s wonderful, actually. And, you know, we’ll see what’s down the line, man.
Here it is. It appears that the 56-year-old actor offers a thoughtful viewpoint regarding the industry’s fluctuations. Though his portrayal of Hal Jordan didn’t succeed, he seems enthusiastic about Kyle Chandler potentially being cast. We’ll have to wait and see if he lands another DC role in the future.
Our understanding of Lanterns is rather scant, yet the DC community eagerly anticipates the Green Lantern Corps. stealing the limelight in the upcoming series. This series is merely one facet of James Gunn’s vision for expanding the DCU, with the inaugural lineup of projects christened as Gods and Monsters. It promises to be intriguing watching how this team of celestial peacekeepers will fit into the broader picture of the universe’s development.
It appears that although Josh Brolin won’t continue as Hal Jordan, he seems interested in working on another DC project at some point. His ability to breathe life into comic book characters is evident through his critically-acclaimed portrayals of Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Cable in Deadpool 2, which can be streamed with a Disney+ subscription.
The details regarding the storyline of “Lanterns” are yet to be defined, but it’s certain that the Green Lantern Corps will play a part in the DC Universe from the start of James Gunn’s “Superman”. This is due to the fact that Nathan Fillion, a frequent collaborator of James Gunn, has been cast as Guy Gardner in “Superman”. In the comics, Gardner is known for his rebellious nature within the Corps., and it will be intriguing to see how Gunn’s creative touch brings this character to life. Additionally, other heroes such as Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, and Metamorpho are also expected to appear alongside him.
It seems likely that Brolin may be part of the DC Universe at some point in the future, given his absence from appearing as Cable in Deadpool & Wolverine, and since he won’t be showing up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for a while. We can only wait and see what happens next.
