As “Still in the Game,” the crypto investor who recently lost a substantial fortune to a cunning phishing attack, I find myself standing at the precipice of both despair and resilience. The sting of this financial blow is undeniable; it’s like losing my life savings to a digital pickpocket lurking in the shadows of the internet.
A well-known crypto meme coin investor, called “Still in the Game,” suffered a significant loss of approximately $6.09 million worth of Gigachad (GIGA) tokens last week, after being tricked into a phishing scam using a fake Zoom meeting invitation. On November 12th, the value of the GIGA token plummeted dramatically as a result of the massive sale of these illegally obtained tokens, causing a sudden price drop.
The investor revealed the cause of the sell-off on social media, explaining, “Just want to be transparent – the massive sell on $GIGA today was due to one of my wallets being drained by a fake Zoom link. This hurts bad but I will be back. I will always stay in the game.”
According to Scam Sniffer, a digital investigation company, a recent cyberattack started when victims received a fraudulent Zoom invitation link. This misleading link led them to a harmful website specifically created for stealing valuable cryptocurrency wallet details.
When the user clicked the provided link, a malicious software (malware) was automatically installed onto their computer, giving the hacker unauthorized access to three of the user’s cryptocurrency wallets, resulting in their emptiness.
As reported by Onchain Lens, a blockchain analysis company, an attacker managed to steal approximately 95.3 million GIGA tokens, equating to roughly $6.09 million. Subsequently, these stolen tokens were converted into various assets, such as about 11,759 Solana (SOL) tokens worth around $2.1 million. These SOL tokens were then swapped for stablecoins like Tether (USDT) and USD Coin (USDC). Additionally, some of the funds were moved to the crypto exchange KuCoin.
After the theft, the investor enlisted both the FBI and an expert forensic squad to help retrieve the misappropriated assets. Although they’ve suffered a setback, their spirits stay high: “Rest assured, I will recover everything lost and then some. Keep watching!
