As a seasoned crypto investor who has weathered numerous market storms and witnessed the rise and fall of several digital coins and exchanges, I find it intriguing that Hollywood is turning its lens towards the captivating story of Sam Bankman-Fried and FTX.
Apple Studios and A24 are teaming up to create a film based on the popular Michael Lewis novel ‘Going Infinite: The Ascent and Decline of a Modern Magnate,’ which centers around the life story of Sam Bankman-Fried, once CEO of FTX.
Based on a Variety report, Apple Studios and A24 are joining forces to jointly produce and develop a movie based on Michael Lewis’ book “Going Infinite”. This film will delve into the rise and fall of the crypto exchange FTX and its founder, Sam Bankman-Fried.
It’s said that Lena Dunham will pen the screenplay for the movie adaptation. She’s widely recognized for creating, acting in, directing, and overseeing as an executive producer the HBO series “Girls,” which earned her eight Emmy Award nominations and a Golden Globe.
In September 2023, Apple purchased rights worth $5 million for Michael Lewis’ book detailing Sam Bankman-Fried’s story, a month prior to its publication. Reportedly, Lewis observed the rise and decline of SBF firsthand during his year-long immersion alongside the ex-crypto billionaire.
In addition to A24’s film and the biopic by Apple, there are a total of eight Hollywood productions currently being developed that focus on SBF.
As reported by Variety, Amazon is planning to create a limited eight-episode series based on the downfall of FTX, with production being handled by AGBO – the company owned by the Russo brothers. David Weil, who created the Amazon Prime series “Hunters”, will write the pilot and serve as an executive producer for this upcoming project. According to a reliable source, discussions are underway for the Russo brothers to direct the series as well.
A new project, similar to those based on SBF, is said to be under development – this time a profile documentary directed by Nanette Burstein, who was behind the 2020 film “Hillary” about former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Previously held as a significant influence in the cryptocurrency sector, Sam Bankman-Fried – CEO and co-founder of FTX – saw his reputation tarnished following the crypto exchange’s downfall in 2022. Subsequently, he faced numerous accusations, including violating campaign finance rules, money laundering, fraud involving securities, and wire fraud.
On March 28th, 2024, Bankman-Fried received a 25-year prison term and was instructed to relinquish $11 billion as a result of his wrongdoings. He has been incarcerated in a federal penitentiary since last year.
