As a researcher with years of experience debunking misinformation and fake news, I have seen it all. From Elon Musk changing the color of the like button to support Miss Universe winners or political candidates, to him magically altering it to celebrate the release of Pushpa 2 – the tales are as imaginative as they are untrue.
On a thrilling Thursday, when Bitcoin soared past the uncharted territory of $100,000, I couldn’t help but notice the buzz on platform X (once known as Twitter) about its CEO, Elon Musk, allegedly transforming the “like” button to mark this monumental occasion.
It’s common knowledge that Musk is a supporter of cryptocurrencies and has frequently endorsed the meme coin Dogecoin. On Thursday morning, as Bitcoin reached the significant milestone of 100,000, some social media users speculated that Musk may have altered his like button to celebrate this event.
Elon Musk marked a significant milestone as Bitcoin’s official value surpassed $100,000, sparking excitement across social media with hashtags like #Bitcoin, #bitcoin100k, and #bitcoin100k.

Similarly, multiple users on the platform spread unconfirmed details about X as Bitcoin became popular.

According to The Crypto Times, it’s been uncovered that the claim in question is not truthful and was actually a piece of misinformation, disseminated by users with the intention of increasing engagement on platform X.
Even X users have debunked this lie multiple times through “community notes” last year.

During both the Miss Universe 2024 pageant and the U.S. Presidential Elections, a similar false rumor circulated on Twitter: It was claimed that Elon Musk modified the ‘like’ button to express approval for the winners of Miss Universe 2024 and support for Donald Trump during the election period.
Actually, there’s no connection between the Miss Universe pageant or the U.S. elections and the X-like button. A careful examination shows that there’s been no official statement from X about any changes to their like function.
On a Friday, numerous X users circulated false rumors suggesting that Elon had transformed the ‘like’ button as a tribute to the launch of Pushpa 2 film.

Such deceptive and false viral content might primarily serve as tactics to increase interaction on X, rather than delivering accurate information. After thorough investigation, The Crypto Times concludes that these statements are completely untrue.
