As an analyst with over two decades of experience in the financial markets, I find MicroStrategy’s relentless Bitcoin buying strategy quite fascinating. The latest acquisition of 5,262 BTC for $561 million, at an average price of $106,662 per coin, further solidifies their commitment to this digital asset.
MicroStrategy recently acquired an additional 5,262 Bitcoins at an overall cost of approximately $561 million. This means they paid around $106,662 per Bitcoin. These purchases were made between December 16, 2024 and December 22, 2024. The funds for this transaction came from the sale of 1.32 million shares of the company.
Currently, the company holds approximately 444,262 Bitcoins, amassed at a grand total of $27.7 billion. This equates to an average price per Bitcoin of around $62,257. Michael Saylor, co-founder and executive chairman of the company, validated this figure on X (previously known as Twitter).
In simpler terms, MicroStrategy mentioned they have approximately $7.08 billion of shares they can potentially sell based on their existing contract.
Simultaneously, news broke out following MicroStrategy’s inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 index earlier today, which places the company among the top 100 firms based on market capitalization. Investors who wish to indirectly invest in Bitcoin can now do so simply by purchasing MicroStrategy stock.
The management structure within the company is undergoing a transition. Recently, they’ve brought on three new executives: Brian Brooks, who previously held the position of CEO at Binance.US and was also the U.S. Comptroller of the Currency; Jane Dietze, an existing board member at Galaxy Digital; and Gregg Winiarski, a representative from Fanatics Holdings.
Since the year 2020, MicroStrategy has consistently been putting money into Bitcoin. On the 10th of November, they acquired 27,200 Bitcoins priced at $74,000 each. A week after that, they bought another 51,780 Bitcoins, and on the 24th of November, they made their largest purchase to date—55,500 Bitcoins, each costing $97,000.
As a crypto investor, I made my last acquisition on December 16, scooping up approximately 15,350 Bitcoins at an approximate cost of $1.5 billion. The average price I paid per Bitcoin was around $100,386.
