Well, I’ll be hog-tied and dunked in a barrel of moonshine—Bitcoin, that glistening digital nugget the townsfolk can’t stop yammering about, just elbowed its way up to the mighty $100,000 marker. Last time it got this froggy was back in early February, and some folks are still trying to recover their monocles from the shock.

The pesky coin didn’t stop there, nosiree. It swung as high as $100,880 on Bitstamp today, probably just to show off. I ain’t seen numbers like that since Old Man Witherspoon tried counting his chickens before sunrise and ran out of fingers, toes, and patience.

What’s got this runaway wagon so frisky? Turns out, it’s just a heap of whispers gnawing on the idea that the U.S. might mind its manners with China and lighten up on those tariffs. Which is to say, Bitcoin’s hooked to pure speculation—same way folks used to bet on whether the riverboat would sink or just embarrass itself.

Not to be left in the ditch, other coins like Ethereum jumped up, too. They’re all “in the green”, which is what my Aunt Fannie called it when the crops didn’t rot.

Is $200,000 possible in 2025?

This morning, some big fancy bank called Standard Chartered put on its best suit and told everyone with a straight face that $200,000 isn’t just a pipe dream, it’s practically the next stop. In fact, they sniffed at their old target of $120,000—said it was downright shy for the second quarter. I’ve seen mules with less optimism, but who am I to argue with folks wearing neckties?

At this rate, Bitcoin is a stone’s throw (and a nice breeze) away from catching its all-time high of $108,786 from back in January. Only 8% away—though with this much speculation, that last 8% may just as well be the distance to the moon. 😉
