Argentina freezes $3.5m in USDT amid investigation into Rainbowex Ponzi scheme: report

As a seasoned analyst with extensive experience in the global financial sector, I have witnessed the ebb and flow of numerous investment scams, both traditional and digital. The ongoing Rainbowex case in Argentina, involving the seizure of $3.5 million in Tether’s USDT stablecoin, is yet another stark reminder of the allure and danger that high-yield investment programs can pose to unsuspecting investors.

In Argentina, a court has mandated the confiscation of a digital wallet holding approximately $3.5 million worth of Tether’s USDT stablecoin.

In response to an ongoing probe into Rainbowex, a suspected trading Ponzi scheme, the Argentine Justice Department has seized control of a $3.5 million digital wallet (USDT). The investigation has led authorities to also freeze associated cryptocurrency wallets and bank accounts linked to the alleged fraudsters, as reported by iProUp.

Despite some ambiguity, it appears that the investigation has received significant assistance from experts at Lemon, a major Argentine digital asset exchange, as well as blockchain forensics firms Chainalysis and Qlue. These entities have provided critical data and technical support to aid authorities in tracking the funds and deciphering the path of the illegal cryptocurrency transactions.

As a researcher involved in the Rainbowex investigation, I’ve been part of over 15 raids conducted across Argentina so far. We’ve managed to apprehend at least four suspects, but there are still several others who remain elusive. Collaboratively with Interpol, we’re also pursuing individuals from Malaysia, whom we suspect played a pivotal role in the conception and management of Rainbowex.

As a researcher, I’ve uncovered startling information about Rainbowex, a company that enticed investors with promises of daily returns ranging from 1% to 2%, equating to an annual interest rate approaching a staggering 3,500%. It is estimated that the town of San Pedro, Buenos Aires, home to approximately 70,000 residents, has been significantly impacted by this scheme.
