Arizona Jumps on Bitcoin Bandwagon, But New Hampshire Beat Them to It!

In a bold move, Arizona’s Governor, Katie Hobbs, has signed a bill (HB 2749) to establish a strategic Bitcoin reserve (SBR). I know, it sounds like something out of a dystopian novel, but here we are, folks. 🌍

The bill is simple enough: Arizona plans to take money from unclaimed property—those forgotten treasures abandoned by their rightful owners—and turn it into Bitcoin. Because, clearly, that’s the most logical next step after holding people’s lost change.

But wait! Arizona has grander plans. They won’t just rely on the forgotten riches of long-lost relatives to fill their Bitcoin vault. No, no. The state will also seize airdrops and staking rewards to grow the reserve. Talk about putting your crypto investments on autopilot! 🚀

Now, don’t think for a second that this is all smooth sailing. Earlier this week, Governor Hobbs vetoed SB 1025, another Bitcoin bill, causing an uproar within the Bitcoin community. It’s almost as if she has a habit of vetoing Bitcoin-related things… Can’t imagine why they’re upset!

Arizona was supposed to be the first state to pass a Bitcoin reserve bill—until New Hampshire, that is. The ever-so-libertarian state beat them to the punch, proving that New Hampshire doesn’t just make good maple syrup; they also make great crypto moves. 🍁

New Hampshire’s bill allows the state to invest up to 5% of its funds in Bitcoin. Meanwhile, Arizona has taken the less ambitious route, with HB 2749—a “watered-down” version of SB 1025 that would allow the state to invest public funds and seized crypto into Bitcoin. But who’s counting, right? 🎯

Despite the minor setback, the crypto community is still thrilled with Arizona’s move. “Second state in two weeks. Not a fickle decision. A law. Bitcoin is entering the mainstream,” said Bitwise CEO Hunter Horsley. Well, that’s reassuring. We’re all just one bill away from living in a Bitcoin world. 🪙

And for those of you wondering, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao has some advice: “You can buy while governments are buying or after they have bought.” Because nothing says confidence like following the government’s lead. 📉📈
