Base creator Jesse Pollak joins Coinbase exec team

Creator of layer 2 blockchain Base, Jesse Pollak has joined the executive team at Coinbase as engineering vice president while also leading Coinbase Wallet.

On October 1st, Jesse Pollak revealed through his social platform that he would be taking charge of Coinbase Wallet and also becoming part of its top-tier management team which comprises eight members. Moreover, he will continue to head BASE as well.

He stated that Base and Coinbase share the same “north star” and by bringing the relationship closer, it would make it easier for the two entities to achieve their common goal. which is to make it “dead simple for the world to come onchain.”

Jesse emphasizes in his latest update that Base remains committed to maintaining its fundamental principles as an all-encompassing, fully decentralized open-source protocol. Furthermore, he plans to apply similar democratic ideals in his collaboration with the Coinbase Wallet crew.

Various professionals and experts in the industry, including Altcoin Psycho (a pseudonymous crypto analyst), praised Pollak’s promotion and saw it as a constructive step for both parties involved. On his X platform, Altcoin Psycho expressed optimism that Coinbase hiring Jesse Pollak could lead to increased mainstream acceptance of cryptocurrency.

As reported by Emillie Choi, President and COO of Coinbase, the company’s former Engineering Vice President, Manish Gupta, has moved on to begin a fresh chapter in his career. In his absence, Pollak will now assume the role of Engineering Vice President at Coinbase.

Prior to this, Jesse Pollak served as the head of Coinbase’s consumer and retail engineering departments from January 2018 up until September 2021. During his tenure, he played a significant role in developing both Coinbase Pro and the Coinbase Wallet.

On August 9, 2023, Coinbase introduced Base, referring to it as a cutting-edge layer-2 blockchain system. This framework was designed with the purpose of boosting Ethereum‘s ability to host decentralized applications, optimizing user experiences, and decreasing transaction fees.

According to data on L2Beat, Base’s total value locked has managed to surpass $7.2 billion.
