Binance founder CZ moved to halfway house, remains in custody

As a seasoned analyst and long-time observer of the crypto market, I have seen my fair share of twists and turns. The recent news about Changpeng Zhao (CZ) being transferred to a halfway house has certainly stirred up quite a storm on Crypto Twitter. However, as a cautious observer, I find it prudent not to jump to conclusions just yet.

Changpeng Zhao, who used to lead Binance, has moved from prison to a transitional living facility run by the Residential Reentry Management office in Long Beach, California.

There’s a buzz on Twitter about cryptocurrencies suggesting that Zhao is no longer under custody, but this isn’t accurate as he’s now reportedly in a halfway house according to recent updates on federal inmate trackers.

Zhao, currently incarcerated since late May due to breaking U.S. anti-money laundering regulations, is slated for release on the 29th of September.

In a court proceeding, Zhao admitted to breaking U.S. regulations concerning money laundering. Consequentially, he resigned from his position as CEO at Binance. As part of the settlement, Binance was penalized a massive sum of $4.3 billion, and Zhao personally consented to pay a fine of $50 million.

Zhao, a prominent figure known for his substantial wealth within cryptocurrencies, has been prohibited from overseeing Binance operations for a period of three years as part of a resolution reached with the US government.
