Binance US onboards ex-New York compliance chief

Binance.US appointed Martin Grant, who previously held the position of Chief Compliance and Ethics Officer at the New York Federal branch, to join their Board of Directors.

Grant, who currently leads regulatory affairs at JST Digital, brings his 30 years of experience in finance and digital assets to Binance.US.

After the crypto company’s regulatory issue with the US Securities and Exchange Commission resulted in a $4.3 billion settlement, the former Federal Reserve officer is anticipated to strengthen compliance and improve conduct at the troubled cryptocurrency firm.

I’m thrilled to announce that I will be contributing to the next phase of development for one of America’s leading and client-focused crypto platforms within the digital asset industry. Joining Binance.US as a Board member is an immense privilege, and I look forward to helping shape its future as it continues to provide secure, responsible, and compliant access to the digital asset sector for Americans.

Binance appoints first-ever board

After the initial formation of Binance’s Board of Directors as part of an agreement with the U.S. Justice Department, Grant was appointed to the position. The crypto exchange has not announced a permanent location for its headquarters but unveiled a seven-person board earlier this month.

According to crypto.news, the company’s board is led by CEO Richard Teng, who succeeded Changpeng Zhao following his departure at the end of last year during the intense US regulatory scrutiny.

Among the prominent individuals displayed on the board are Heina Chen, Jinkai He, Lilai Wang (a founding member), Xin Wang who is CEO of Bayview Acquisition Corp, and Arnaud Ventura, managing partner at Gojo & CO., listed as two out of three external figures.

Gabriela Abed, previously the representative of Barbados in the United Arab Emirates, will preside over the board and manage day-to-day activities. During this tenure, she will keep relevant authorities informed as part of a supervision process that could continue for as long as five years.
