Paolo Ardoino, the big cheese over at Tether, dropped a real mind-boggling prediction about Bitcoin and quantum computing!
He says that quantum computing could one day return lost Bitcoin to circulation, including the stash of the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto… if they’ve kicked the bucket, of course! But don’t freak out just yet – he also thinks there’s no immediate danger to Bitcoin’s cryptography from quantum computers.
Ardoino even floated the idea of adding quantum-resistant addresses to Bitcoin’s protocol before any major security risks show up. That way, active wallet holders can move their Bitcoin to new, quantum-safe addresses. But what about the Bitcoin in inaccessible wallets, like the ones owned by Satoshi? Well, they might not be so safe from quantum breakthroughs.
Patrick Lowry, the head honcho at Samara Asset Group, had a different idea: a quantum-resistant fork that would leave lost wallets and Satoshi’s holdings behind. But Lowry wasn’t too sure about the consequences of either approach.
Despite all this, Ardoino still thinks Bitcoin is the bee’s knees, emphasizing that its 21 million supply cap will stay intact even with quantum computing advancements. “Bitcoin is the best asset in the world,” he declared.
This juicy convo comes as Tether keeps growing its global financial infrastructure. At the PlanB Forum in El Salvador, Ardoino talked about Tether’s impressive network – one of the widest digital and physical distribution networks in history, serving around 400 million users in emerging markets with their USDT stablecoin.
Ardoino highlighted Tether’s strategy of building partnerships instead of chasing capital investments. He mentioned their hundreds of thousands of partners and widespread kiosk deployment across developing nations. The company’s goal? To bring financial services to billions of people currently left out in the cold by traditional banks, all while supporting the U.S. economy with Treasury purchases.
