As an analyst with years of experience in the digital world, I have seen my fair share of scams and hacking incidents. This latest incident involving The Cryptomist is yet another reminder of the precarious nature of online interactions, especially when it comes to high-profile personalities like influencers.
It’s been revealed that a significant security breach occurred on platform X, affecting the popular influencer called The Cryptomist. It appears that Russian scoundrels exploited the situation by taking over the account, using it to advertise bogus employment offers.
After this event occurred, ZachXBT cautioned the community about the potential dangers of following compromised accounts. This is particularly important because he has numerous common associates with The Cryptomist.
These types of frauds often lure potential victims with tempting job prospects, aiming to deceive them into downloading harmful software or disclosing confidential details.
Under a false identity as The Cryptomist on platform X, an individual posted an announcement, “Job opening for Web3 (work from home) in a significant project.” This advertisement aims to entice followers with the allure of a remote Web3 job and the prospect of compensation.
A significant number of people have voiced their enthusiasm about the job openings by commenting on the posts, also demonstrating how effortlessly one might get ensnared in such situations.
ZachXBT additionally mentioned that when users communicated directly with The Cryptomist, they were sometimes directed to send a message to someone on Telegram identified by the username “@wzwz_eth”. This individual allegedly provided further details about the job opportunity.
If individuals reach out to @wzwz_eth on Telegram, they might get a prompt suggesting they register on a site suspected of being a scam. The message could request their email address, username, and password under the pretext that this data is essential for viewing project details and attaining a moderator position, allegedly granting them unrestricted access to numerous tools.
The message also says, “Just don’t forget to leave your username so that I can give you role, since without it most of the site is closed.” The request for a username to grant access further indicates that this could be a scam, as legitimate platforms usually do not require such information to unlock features or roles.
To shield themselves from being tricked by these scams, users should stay vigilant, identify potential warning signs like demands for private data, and confirm the authenticity of deals before acting upon them.
