Decentraland X Account Hacked for Fake $MANA Airdrop Scam

As a seasoned crypto investor with a few battle scars to show for it, I can’t stress enough the importance of vigilance and caution when navigating the digital frontier. The recent hacking of Decentraland’s official X account is yet another stark reminder that the crypto world is teeming with opportunistic predators lurking in the shadows.

On September 19th, PeckShield, a company specializing in blockchain security, announced a security issue concerning Decentraland’s official X (previously known as Twitter) account. According to PeckShield, the account has been compromised and is now being used to spread a phishing scheme.

The individuals causing trouble are sharing a fraudulent link associated with Decentraland’s X account, claiming it offers free MANA tokens. This link leads users to a fake website disguised as a platform for buying MANA tokens. If you connect your wallet to this site, they will steal your money.

PeckShield recommends everyone who follows Decentraland to avoid any interaction with the compromised X account. They caution against clicking on any links or engaging with content related to this potential fraud.

It’s wiser for users to hold off on taking any actions until they receive updates from Decentraland’s authentic social media platforms. Unfortunately, incidents of social media account hacking have been increasing recently. Coincidentally, on the same day as this occurrence, which was September 18, several prominent social media accounts were also subjected to phishing attacks.

Be cautious and make sure you are receiving information from credible sources to guard your digital property against these emerging threats.
