Pavel Durov, the creator of Telegram, anticipates a rise in unconventional, secure gadgets for storing cryptocurrencies that function similarly to communication wallets. His projection arises from growing apprehension among privacy advocates regarding potential government control over these advanced technologies.
In an interview with Tucker Carlson, Durov voiced worries over governments trying to pressure services such as Telegram. He mentioned his preference for staying out of political conflicts, choosing instead to act as an impartial force.
Tucker Carlson noted thatÂ
“Privacy is increasingly scarce in the world, and governments are growing less accepting of it. This pattern is evident due to their expanding technological capabilities.”
Durov explains that staying connected with the community has played a significant role in preparing him for this challenging path. He disclosed that the FBI proposed a deal under which Telegram would install surveillance access points at their expense. However, following the hacking and data leaks on US-based platforms, Durov’s faith in their security was shattered completely.
In addition, Durov is convinced that heightened government monitoring will lead to the development of advanced communication tools, akin to cryptocurrency hardware wallets, which safeguard digital assets using specialized hardware.
Durov pointed out that the UAE is an unbiased location where privacy-conscious companies can thrive. He emphasized the importance of maintaining full ownership of Telegram by refusing venture capital financing. With his own financial resources, he is capable of running the business independently.
