Google suspends Trust Wallet from its Google Play marketplace

As a researcher with extensive experience in the cryptocurrency industry, I find the sudden removal of Trust Wallet from Google Play quite intriguing. The timing of this event, following closely after the FBI’s warning against using non-KYC crypto services, raises some questions.

As a researcher, I’ve come across some noteworthy news regarding Trust Wallet being taken down from Google Play. This occurred only a few days following the FBI’s warning against employing non-Know Your Customer (KYC) crypto services.

Trust Wallet, a digital wallet for managing cryptocurrencies that was obtained by Binance in 2018, seems to have been taken down from the Google Play store. Users trying to access its page on Google Play are now directed to a blank screen, implying that the app is no longer accessible.

I’ve been closely monitoring the situation, and as of now, the cause for Trust Wallet delisting their app from Google Play remains a mystery. Neither Trust Wallet nor Google Play have made any official announcements regarding this matter. Consequently, my crypto investments in Trust Wallet’s native token TWT took a hit, with the value dropping by more than 5% based on CoinGecko’s data.

Since its founding in 2017 by Viktor Radchenko, Trust Wallet has offered users secure, non-custodial storage solutions for cryptocurrencies spanning multiple blockchain networks. In 2018, Binance, a prominent crypto exchange, acquired the application; however, the specifics of the financial transaction have yet to be disclosed publicly.

New information surfaced not long after the FBI issued a caution to Americans about utilizing crypto services from unregistered Money Services Businesses (MSBs) and disregarding anti-money laundering regulations. It’s uncertain whether Google’s move to eliminate Trust Wallet is linked to this advisory, considering that other non-custodial cryptocurrency wallets continue to be accessible on Google Play at present.
