IIM Lucknow Launches Blockchain Centre of Excellence in UP

As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in the technology sector, I find this move by IIML-EIC to establish the Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology (CoE-BT) not just promising but potentially game-changing for the Indian tech landscape, particularly in Uttar Pradesh.

The Indian Institute of Management Lucknow’s Business Innovation Hub (IIM-BHub) recently declared the creation of a Blockchain Technology Center of Excellence (BTCoe), backed by the Uttar Pradesh government through its StartInUP initiative.

Over the next five years, this program aims to cultivate a vibrant ecosystem for innovation and business creation, specifically focusing on supporting around 100 budding blockchain-based ventures.

The Center of Excellence – Blockchain Technology (CoE-BT) is dedicated to fostering progress in the field of blockchain technology, aligning with the state government’s objectives to strengthen electronic governance by boosting trust, transparency, and dependability across numerous sectors. This center will serve as a driving force for technological advancements, offering essential resources and assistance to startups.

Professor Ashish Dubey, overseeing IIML-EIC, underscores the significance of the alliance with Microsoft India. This collaboration is crucial for pinpointing novel prospects and bolstering innovations within the realm of blockchain technology. It’s anticipated that this partnership will empower startups to maintain a leading edge in the swiftly transforming blockchain environment.

The CoE-BT will offer a range of support services, including:

  • Mentorship: Access to guidance from over 50 industry and academic experts.
  • Industry Connections: Networking opportunities with key players in the blockchain space.
  • Venture Capital Funding: Financial support to help startups scale their operations.
  • Specialized Training: Programs for students and aspiring entrepreneurs to build expertise in blockchain applications.

Beyond its primary functions, the CoE-BT also plans to set up three outreach hubs in Gorakhpur, Lucknow, and Greater Noida/Meerut. These hubs aim to foster and encourage blockchain technology innovation throughout Uttar Pradesh. This effort supports a vibrant ecosystem for advancing technological developments.

Fundamentally, this Center of Excellence in Blockchain Technology is designed to function as a crucial resource and innovation center for technology, with the primary goal of enhancing Uttar Pradesh’s technological prowess and cultivating a vibrant blockchain community.
