An auction bid for a “Buy Bitcoin” sign, which was once displayed behind ex-Fed chair Janet Yellen, currently stands at $140,000. (Or: The “Buy Bitcoin” sign that was previously used during Janet Yellen’s appearances now has bids totaling $140,000 in the online auction.)
An auction for a legal pad with the words “Buy Bitcoin” written on it is garnering bids close to $140,000 online. This item has gained notice after being shown behind Janet Yellen, former Federal Reserve Chair, during her Congressional hearings about seven years ago.
At the age of 22, Christian Langalis, an intern at the Cato Institute and an advocate for Bitcoin, penned a provocative statement that elicited a mix of reactions, ranging from debate to approval.
Although Langalis was removed from the hearing due to his actions, his artwork is now drawing high bids – approaching $140,000 or 2.2 Bitcoins – in a digital auction on Scarce City, a platform that utilizes Bitcoin for crypto merchandise sales. Currently, the largest bid of 2.2 Bitcoins comes from an X user with the pseudonym @BITPAINTCLUB.
In 2017, Bitcoin made a significant breakthrough into the world of institutional finance. Any dedicated Bitcoin user would have predicted this. I’m glad I can share this insight with the wider Bitcoin community now. The idea was revolutionary back then, but it’s clearer than ever now: Bitcoin is gaining momentum. Traditional control is losing its grip.

The auction is scheduled to end on April 24th. The location for announcing the winner will be a New York restaurant with a Bitcoin theme, where Langalis works. As stated in the item’s description, this sign is one of the few physical artifacts associated with Bitcoin, given its virtual character.
