A Japan-based Akita dog society is using blockchain technology to issue digital pedigree certificates. The Akita Inu Preservation Society, based in Odate, Japan, partnered with Meta Akita Inc. and Heirloom Inc. to create this system. They aim to make things easier for owners and ensure authenticity.
An organization representing Akita dogs based in Japan is now providing digital pedigree records on a secure blockchain system. This change aims to improve ease and assure genuine documentation for dog owners.
As a dedicated crypto investor and proud owner of an Akita Inu breed dog, I’m thrilled about the innovative approach taken by the Akita Inu Preservation Society based in Japan. They are harnessing the power of blockchain technology to issue digital pedigree certificates for our beloved Akita dogs. This groundbreaking solution aims to put an end to forgeries and simplify administrative processes, giving us peace of mind and ensuring the authenticity and heritage of our cherished canine companions.
As a researcher, I’ve come across an intriguing initiative reported by Japan Today. This project is being developed in partnership with Meta Akita Inc., a local IT firm from Japan, and Heirloom Inc., an American company. The primary objective of this society is to authentically and conveniently cater to the needs of dog owners.

Additionally, concerns over forged pedigree documents, particularly in China, led them to adopt this secure and transparent solution.
“Besides the benefit of digitization, we aim to provide owners with the extra reassurance that their dog is indeed a purebred.”
Society board member Yuki Shoji
The dog community aims to overcome logistical challenges by modernizing document management during transportation. The updated issuance procedure, which can be accessed through the society’s website and a dedicated smartphone application, is anticipated to expedite certificate delivery and provide peace of mind for owners regarding their dogs’ pedigrees.
