JPMorgan Chase Discloses Bitcoin ETF Holdings in SEC Filing

As a seasoned crypto investor with a decade-long experience in the market, I can’t help but be intrigued by the latest developments surrounding institutional involvement in Bitcoin ETFs. The recent disclosure that JPMorgan Chase has invested in various Bitcoin ETFs and holds shares worth over $500,000 is a significant milestone for the crypto industry.

JPMorgan Chase, the foremost bank in the US, has disclosed its investment in Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). According to a SEC filing, JPMorgan holds approximately $760,000 worth of shares in five different Bitcoin ETFs: ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO), BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), Fidelity’s Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC), Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC), and Bitwise Bitcoin ETF.

The statistics that Eric is currently compiling for his upcoming memo on ETFs carry significantly greater importance and relevance.

As a crypto investor, I’ve noticed an intriguing development: JPMorgan Chase has recently included Bitcoin ETFs as part of its investment portfolio, holding around 25,021 shares worth roughly $47,000 in BitcoinDepot – a crypto Automated Teller Machine (ATM) provider. This revelation underscores the bank’s forward-thinking approach to integrating digital assets into their investment strategy. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) granting approval for spot Bitcoin ETFs earlier this year served as a significant green light for financial institutions, enabling them to expand their asset diversification by investing in cryptocurrencies.

On the very same day that Wells Fargo disclosed its negative exposure to Grayscale, ProShares, and Bitcoin ETFs, as well as Bitcoin Depot in a SEC filing, Susquehanna International Group made a substantial purchase of over $1 billion worth of spot crypto ETFs during the first quarter of 2024. This move suggests that institutional investors, represented by Susquehanna, are showing growing interest in Bitcoin.
