LayerZero Unmasks 800K Fraudulent Addresses in Sybil Report

As a researcher with experience in blockchain technology and network security, I am excited to witness LayerZero Labs’ significant progress in identifying Sybil addresses on their network. The self-report phase has now ended, and the team has managed to reduce the number of potential Sybil addresses from over 2 million to 803,093. This is a substantial achievement that will undoubtedly pave the way for more effective fraud prevention measures.

At LayerZero Labs, we’ve completed the self-declaration process for detecting Sybil addresses, signifying a significant advancement in our efforts to combat fraud on our platform.

At first, more than 2 million addresses were under investigation. However, the company has since identified approximately 803,093 suspect addresses as potential Sybils. This substantial decrease opens up opportunities for the next stage of their project.

The Sybil reporting stage is now over. Each reported address will be allocated 15% of the intended token allotment, while the remaining 85% will be returned to eligible users. Between the Sybil reporting and verification by LayerZero, Chaos Labs, and Nansen AI, approximately 803,093 addresses have been processed.

Over the next few weeks, LayerZero Labs is initiating a community-wide hunt for Sybil addresses. To join in, participants must submit at least twenty potentially fraudulent addresses. For each identified Sybil, you’ll receive a 10% share of the anticipated token distribution as a reward. This bounty program commences on May 18 at 2:00 UTC and concludes on May 31 at 23:59 UTC.

As a crypto investor, I’m always on the lookout for trustworthiness and transparency in the projects I support. In early May, LayerZero Labs took a commendable step towards promoting these values by launching a public disclosure portal. This initiative allows users like me to come forward and confess any Sybil-related activities. By doing so, we’re deterring fraudulent practices and fostering an honest community where trust is paramount.

Previously, CEO Bryan Pellegrino revealed that approximately 100,000 wallet addresses openly acknowledged being sybils, making them eligible for 15% of the initial distribution of tokens in the airdrop. LayerZero Labs underscores the significance of users confessing sybil behavior, promising them rewards, while those who don’t disclose such actions will receive no token allocation.

Pellegrino underscored the significance of collecting Sybil wallet information, emphasizing its essential role in identifying and warding off potential fraudulent actions in the future.
