Meta Unveils AI Tool That Can Create High-Quality Short Videos

Having followed the progress of AI-driven content generation over the years, it is clear to me that we are entering a new era where text can truly be transformed into visual and auditory experiences with striking accuracy.

Meta has unveiled a fresh AI technology known as “Movie Gen,” which can create 16-second videos complete with sound effects and musical scores, solely based on text commands.

Among various AI-driven video generation tools available, Meta asserts that Movie Gen delivers superior quality compared to others.

In a blog post, Meta shares that the AI can generate videos at 16 frames per second (FPS). For comparison, Hollywood movies are usually filmed at 24 FPS to get smooth, professional shots. 

Based on their findings, they found that our image generation model holds its own against contemporary text-to-image models, even matching the performance of more recent techniques.

Although 16 FPS is slightly lower, it is still a bit close to a professional level. The tool can generate completely new videos based on simple text prompts or modify existing videos and images by changing objects and backgrounds.

Additionally, it has the ability to generate up to 45 seconds of synchronized audio, enabling you to craft a complete audiovisual story with minimal text.

At this point, Movie Gen is still undergoing research and isn’t accessible to the public. It was built primarily for research, and the developers emphasize that additional safety measures are necessary to prevent potential misuse. They plan on implementing safety filters to screen out inappropriate or harmful content.
