Nigerian court orders arrest of prison doctor as Binance exec is wheelchair-bound

As a long-time crypto investor with a keen interest in the Binance exchange and its executive team, I have been closely following the developments regarding Tigran Gambaryan’s detention in Nigeria with great concern. Having read the recent news about the court issuing a bench warrant for Dr. Abraham Ehizojie, the doctor at Kuje Correctional Centre responsible for Gambaryan’s medical reports, I cannot help but feel deeply troubled and frustrated by this turn of events.

A Nigerian court has ordered the apprehension of Dr. Abraham Ehizojie, a medical professional at the Kuje Correctional Facility, for the detainment of Binance executive Tigran Gambaryan.

According to reports from local media, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered a warrant after Ehizojie neglected to provide a medical report concerning Gambaryan during their court appearance.

The court mandated the prison authorities to provide the medical records of the detained Binance executive by July 16 for the forthcoming hearing. Lawyer Mark Mordi requested the judge to subpoena Ehizojie to clarify why these documents had not been presented.

At the recent hearing, a representative from the prison testified that the directive had been given to the missing doctor.

I recommended to the court that they issue a bench warrant and commit Gambaryan, who attended the hearing in a wheelchair, to a hospital.

“[Gambaryan] has been complaining of back pain. We need to be careful of the life in our hands.”

A Binance executive has been held in Nigeria since February. At present, he is under investigation for alleged money laundering offenses and accusations of breaching foreign exchange regulations.

While he was there, it was discovered that he had malaria through a test. Additionally, during a court proceeding on May 23rd, his health took a turn for the worse and he fainted in public.

Outside the courthouse, some American legislators have voiced worries about Gambaryan’s wellbeing in the past, as well as leveled criticism towards Kuje Prison, alleging it serves primarily to detain “ISIS fighters.”

In June, U.S. representative French Hill paid a visit to the facility and disclosed that resident Gambaryan was battling both malaria and double pneumonia. As per the congressman’s account, Gambaryan was being deprived of proper medical care and had noticeably lost weight as a result.

At the latest court session, Justice Nwite reprimanded Ehizojie’s behavior and mandated that Gambaryan undergo a 24-hour health evaluation at Nizamiye Hospital. The proceedings have been postponed until October 11th in the meantime.
